Bedding for a small double bed

We’re thinking of getting DD a bigger bed. She currently has a single. Her room is really a bit too small for a double bed (there would be no space for a bedside table as there would Only be 15cm between the bed and the the doorway. So we’re considering a small double instead. However all bedding seems to only come in single/double/king/super king sizes. It’s not really a problem for duvet covers (we’ll probably just get her a double duvet). But how do sheets work? She is expected to change her own bed, and has only ever used fitted sheets. Do fitted sheets for small double beds actually exist?

Don’t think I’ve ever seen any. It’s really not that hard to tuck in a flat sheet though, she’d soon get the hang of it.

Something like this?

Egyptian Cotton 200 Thread Count Fitted Sheet 4ft Small Double White https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005UQ0BEO/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_hrNxFbV27085E

I've seen them in dunelm previously

My ds has a small double. We use a double duvet and got small double fitted sheets from dunelm. I think you can also get them from amazon.

Another vote for Dunelm. You may need to order online & click & collect though. And while you're searching you'll find other purveyors.

I bought small double sheets from Amazon, but tbh they’re a bit tight! I have quite a deep mattress so a double sheet would be better for it. DS also has a small double and I bought him double sheets having learned my lesson. Definitely a better fit.

I juat use fitted double bed sheets for dd's small double. They work fine

maloofhoof · 13/09/2020 20:42

I bought small double fitted sheets from wayfair recently.

nancyjuice7 · 13/09/2020 20:42

Double duvet would be fine.

We use a super king on our king size as DH is a duvet puller.

Sheet wise as others have said Dunlem and amazon sell smaller fitted sheets

My son has a small dbl. we got the bottom sheet from John Lewis.

He's ever so comfy Smile

Crylittlesister · 13/09/2020 20:53

I just use regular double sized bedding on dd's. She uses a fitted sheet and just tucks it under well.

A small double is a lovely idea. A lot of university beds are small doubles so there are plenty of places that sell the bedding. As you say, you only need the fitted sheet in that size although Dunelm do a variety on mattress toppers for 4ft beds as well as the sheets.

Also Victoria Linen - expensive but amazing quality.

Thank you everyone! I think we’ll go ahead and get her the bed. We already have double fitted sheets. I’ll see how they fit, and then investigate further if they don’t work.

Dunelm sell them.

bossyboo · 14/09/2020 15:00

My son has a small double. I had to order online for small double sheets at Dunelm too! We use a double duvet so that's no problem.

A small double - used to be called a three-quarter bed - is widely used in universities, so it should be easy to get bedding.
