Any tips for whiter than white clothing?

Hey all,

I'm struggling to get my clothing whiter than white and removing stains is a nightmare! Kids are back at school which means white shirts and white socks. I use vanish ( white & pink containers) but nothing ever works. Stains don't leave the shirts and socks come out looking slightly grubby. Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

do you use bio powder? Powders make clothes whiter than liquids as they contain bleaches. Rub washing up liquid into the stain before washing

Get a water softener.

Only use powder and only wash pure whites together. Dry outside as the sunlight helps to keep whites good and bleaches out stains.

I've never used Vanish and our whites have stayed excellent for years.

I use bio powder for whites, and liquid for colours (as recommended on that AMA thread about laundry detergents!). Powders containing bleach, liquids dont.

If you have something that is completely white (ie no school logo) then ace bleach for whites is very good.

Washing up liquid on stains is my saviour (I don’t tend to watch the washing machine though and dp recently asked me why the hell there was bubbles coming out of the washing machine drawer (there was no evidence of this after so much have been kid wash 🤷🏻‍♀️) I told him to shut it unless he intends to do the washing moving forwards

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/09/2020 17:44

I use Costco non bio powder 1/3 more than I’d use for colours, two scoops astonish laundry bleach (vanish is tested on animals) one scoop soda crystals & I press the extra rinse button.

All my whites are sparkling.

The extra detergent lifts out dirt, the soda softens the water and increases detergent action, the bleach bleaches 🤨 and the extra rinse flushes all the soapy water away because modern machines use so little water, if it isn’t rinsed properly the material goes dingy.

I forgot all about soda crystals, love them!

Just another daddy looking for extra resources to make living easier!

Sorry, new user here, don't know what happened there! lol

I was meant to say there's a company called Melaleuca who sells a range of products that may solve your problems.
It's a pity they operate as a 'members only' because their products are unique.

Cold soak them (detergent and cold water) overnight then hot wash the next day. Heat sets stains.
