I think i have bedbugs. I wake up with lots of small itchy bumps. What the hell do I do? Call the council? Throw bed mattress and bedding all away? Help!

One little beetle in the bathroom won’t be anything to do with your rash. The doctor will be able to tell the difference between hives and insect bites.

AIBU22 · 08/09/2020 21:04

Are these any better? I'm losing the plot.

Get a life @Medievalist

itchyrus20 · 08/09/2020 21:30

Think that's definitely them unfortunately yes

Medievalist · 08/09/2020 21:50

But is it normal to find a bedbug on a wall? I thought they always hid away?

If I was you I'd put it in a glass jar and maybe get someone else in RL to compare it with internet pics and give you a second opinion.

Agree with Mutts though - I'd expect a dr to be able to tell the difference between hives and bites.

Fingers crossed it's just a random bug.

SofaSurfette · 08/09/2020 22:05

Hmm, looks like it has a lot more legs than a bed bug (though pics are a bit fuzzy so I might be seeing it incorrectly). Definitely save it so you can show any pest controllers you may decide to use. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it is hives and a coincidence though! As others have said, if the GP thinks hives then that is more than likely what you've got. Also if you're getting a lot of "bites" then it would be very unusual not to see blood spots / other evidence on your sheets.

DidoAtTheLido · 08/09/2020 22:50

I don't think that is a bed bug.

They are more flat, and heart shaped and dark red.

MuttsNutts · 08/09/2020 22:54

It looks nothing like a bedbug.

And bedbugs don’t live on bathroom walls, they live...in beds.

Spam88 · 08/09/2020 22:58

Doesn't look anything like a bedbug (and that would be a very odd place to find one!). Looks like a carpet beetle larva? Woolly bears or whatever it is they're called.

thesedaysarescary · 08/09/2020 22:58

This is a bed bug

A bit off topic, but even though your cat is an indoor cat, you should still flea treat them. And neuter them if you haven't already.

DidoAtTheLido · 08/09/2020 23:12

Bed bugs do live in places other than beds - skirting boards, chairs, drawers, any hiding place. I think they have a range of 20 feet from their source of food - your bed. They are alerted by the carbon dioxide you breathe out, so detect you once you are in bed.

TheSandman · 09/09/2020 00:24

That is NOT a bedbug.

lazyakita · 09/09/2020 00:27

Those are definitely carpet beetle larvae. They don't bite, but their hairs can be irritating to skin. You might need to do a deep clean. Wash all clothes and bedding that can be washed hot on 60 degrees or higher. Anything that can't be washed bung in the freezer for a few days. Vacuum everywhere, I mean absolutely everywhere, and do it daily. Focus on carpets, rugs, curtains, sofas, dark corners (under the bed, in wardrobes). The main issue with these things is they eat natural fibres and can be quite destructive. On the plus side they're mildly less awful than bed bugs!

TheSandman · 09/09/2020 00:27

They are more flat, and heart shaped and dark red.

Only dark red when they have fed. IE that dark red colour is blood. Before the feed they are paler/waxy yellowy

AIBU22 · 09/09/2020 02:43

@Shmithecat2 yeah.. I already do both those things. Have had cats all my life. But thanks anyway!

Definitely carpet beetles. You need to Hoover well every day OP. You can get a spray as well to help. After a few days if hoovering, drop it down to a few times a week. Wash any fabrics/clothes that may be on the floor etc too. Hoover your bed.
