Compost bucket?

I have a compost bin in the garden and keep the peelings, etc in a bucket on the worktop and empty it at the end of the day. Has anyone seen a nice compost bucket/bin that would look ok in the kitchen? It has to sit on the worktop because nobody would ever use it if I put it in a cupboard (tried that), so I just want something that doesn't look too awful. We eat a lot of veg so it needs to be fairly big. At the moment i just have a small black bucket with a lid but it's not very attractive!

Meant to say, I've looked online but the ones I've seen are all much smaller than my bucket. Ideally I'd like something about shoe box sized e.g. about 20x20x30cm

Oxo compost bin is good. It can go in the dishwasher to fully clean.
We just empty each day or every other depending on how full into main bin in garden

Dishwashable would be great as I don't bother with the cornstarch bags. I'll look that one up - thanks Casapianberg.

Lakeland normally have a good selection, i've got the oxo one.

The Joseph Joseph one is good and a bigger size than all the others including the oxo one.

LivingoffCoffee · 06/09/2020 19:44

Homesense always seem to have a selection. I actually got one today that's the same style as traditional flour/tea/sugar type tins

Does it need to look like a bucket? MIL has what looks like a stainless steel type mixing bowl, but it has a stainless steel, handled lid on top.

I have 2 of these, (little downstairs utility used as kitchen) & like them -£14 on amazon

I have the oxo one. To be honest I wouldn't want one a lot bigger - it forces you to empty it frequently and hence it never gets smelly/slimy

BeachLane · 06/09/2020 21:21

@Elouera that sounds good - do you know where she got it?

Thanks to all the other pps. I'm not sure why I haven't seen all these when I've been looking.

@BeachLane- sorry, no idea where MIL got her stainless steel bowl from, but it could almost pass as a cooking pot, except the sides taper outwards towards the top. More like a large jam pot shape, but with a matching lid. I scoured the internet and cannot even find anything similar! I'll keep looking though and post when I find something similar.

We use one of the small Ikea Sockerbit boxes as a kitchen compost bucket.

The lid is easy to open and close, and it doesn't look too bad on the counter. Comes in different colours and sizes, pretty cheap as well!

Thanks @elouera - I'll have a look too. Stainless steel would look nicer on the worktop than my current plastic bucket!

@BeachLane- I saw MIL today. What I assumed to be a matching set, turned out to be a large stainless steel bowl she got 20yrs ago, then just used a similar looking cooking lid on top! I'd never looked closely and thought it was a set! Hopefully you do find something suitable though.

Stainless steel is awful to keep clean though, always looks filthy unless you faff. I like the look of it but avoid it anywhere that’s going to be touched regularly. ‘tis a shame.

I’ve had this for compost for a couple of years now, I t’s a nice size and dishwasher proof too. Mine is 6 liters but there are several sizes and colours. www.brabantia.com/uk/sort-go-waste-bin-6-litre-grey/

Lakeland have them and Garden Trading have ones like buckeejit has posted in different colours. I had one like that in sage.

I’m use a decorative flower pot belonging to Dd at the moment.
