Sweet potato catastrophe

House is going on the market in a few days. Was making dinner this afternoon, and I managed to set a sweet potato on fire in my microwave. I don't know how. Cue billowing smoke everywhere. Our entire house now stinks- am I doomed to show people round a house that smells like a bonfire or is there a way of getting rid of it?

I'm really such an idiot.

I don't know of a quick fix for this! Just leave all windows open and if the smell is coming from the microwave, put it in the garage or hide it in the car.

Get the microwave as clean as possible, microwave a lemon cut up in a dish if water (repeatedly if necessary) keep all windows open , and as pp, move the microwave if that’s what it takes.

open all windows as much as they can.
wash down the kitchen/microwave with warm soapy water.
wash curtains.

Make fresh coffee, bake some bread, light candles, vac and clean everything with strong cleaning liquid. Put fresh flowers about the place too.

sprinkle carpetswith washing powder and leave for a bit before hoovering it up

Yy to cleaning the microwave as well as possible and airing endlessly

It’s also worth simmering a pan of weather with washing powder (or liquid) for several hours and leaving a dish of vinegar out in each room over night.

OwlBasket · 05/09/2020 17:28

weather = water. Damned auto correct

Slice an onion and leave it in the room overnight. Not tried it.

I did this. Bin the microwave. I tried all the tricks mentioned here - cleaned it, microwaved lemons and oranges, left it outside, put an onion in it. I couldn't get rid of the smell until I ditched the microwave. My fire wasn't even that bad either.
