Carpet cleaners?

Been thinking of getting a carpet cleaner - looking at the Vax Platinum and wondering if anyone has this and if it's worth the money? Carpets are a light grey colour and quite stained due to 2 children under 3 We are planning to get new flooring but probably not for at least another year so in the meantime wondering whether the carpet cleaner will help to make the floors look a bit better! Any recommendations?

We bought this cleaner 2 weeks ago. Have used it on our sofas so far and it truly is amazing. They are light in colour and were covered in coffee stains/food but the cleaner got rid of them all and looked just as they did new! Even if the water was grim. The bottle of cleaner that came with it didn't even do one sofa though so we bought some cheaper stuff online that has worked just as well. Hope that helps!
