What am I missing?

My son had a bit too much to drink on Wednesday night, came home an puked in the downstairs loo - when I say in the loo, i mean in the room rather than actually getting it in the loo.

He rushed in the room and puked but the lid was down....

Anyway, he was in no fit state so I had to clean it all up, was on door, floor and wall tiles, but mainly on the toilet. It was 2am so i cleared it, anti bacced it and left it at that. Gave it a better clean next day but could still smell it today - doesn't smell of sick, sort of smells like skanky seaside.

So today I completely removed the toilet seat and soaked it in disinfectant. cleared under all the fittings, re-cleaned everywhere with disinfectant and zoflora, mopped the floor with added zoflora etc, toilet bleached, one of those toilet duck things stuck into toilet - still has damp sea rotten crab smell.

What am I missing? Why does it still smell? Room is literally only a door width wide by 6 foot at most. All that's in it is loo and sink, bottle of bleach and loo roll and antibac wipes. It's tiled to above height of sink and has sealed lino floor. There is a radiator but I've wiped outside and no evidence of any splashes near it - it's behind the door.

Appreciate that this should really be DSs job - but given I've now done it 3 times and it still smells, I'm not sure that getting him to do it would be productive. I've given him other jobs to do.

Any ideas before I just brick it up and move?

Oh God, booze, chorizo, mackerel and egg. You poor woman Grin

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 29/08/2020 17:16

it's not in the radiator fins is it?? for god's sake don't put the radiator on until you have checked!

userxx · 29/08/2020 17:37

plus the drive back didn't help

Yep, that would have done it. Unless it's a 5 minute tax ride it will always end in disaster for me.

By the way OP I don't think anyone on this thread said "photo or it didn't happen" Grin

Grin Grin Grin Grin - I have more?

I picked him up rather than it be a taxi, it's normally only about 10 minutes drive but we have a detour at the moment which adds on another 10. We drove back with the windows open. I wish he'd asked me to stop now rather than waiting until we got home.

Still smells, maybe not so strong or I'm getting used to it. Can't face it again today so it'll be tomorrow for further investigations.

Definitely nothing on or in the radiator and I've managed to have the door open with the front and/or back doors/kitchen windows all open to try to air it but I can smell it when I walk past.

Loo roll was ditched on day 1. He has eclectic food tastes. We'd been out for a eat out to help out lunch (he had a burger so nothing weird) and DH and I weren't hungry for any dinner. DS2 was away for another Eat out to help out dinner so it was just him so he helpfully used up stuff in the fridge.

DS2 now home and says he can't smell anything so maybe on the home straight - fingers crossed.

Thanks for all your help folks. I think it's gone or at least acclimatised with the rest of the house Grin

I deemed it okay enough to actually use it myself instead of schlepping upstairs - I'm calling that success!

I've found the pet spray so that will be the next thing if I think it's actually still there. Nose smells best in the morning !
