To get a skip for clearout?

Is this really self indulgent? Environmentally bad? We have a TON of stuff like old bikes, broken lawn mower, unused tiles that are of no use to anyone - is it crazy to get a skip to dispose of them all?

We did this last month and it was brilliant. Very cathartic and filled it up very easily!

I love getting a skip! Unless there's some obvious way for you to dispose of some of these things (ie do you have things your local charity could use?) then it's great.

Do it! I did this last week and it was sooooo worth it.
Saves numerous trips to the skip plus can be done at leisure.

If it makes you feel better let your immediate neighbours know when the skip will be arriving so they can dump unwanted items in there too.

It's a really quick way of getting rid of stuff (have filed 3 these last few months due to gutting the house), generally the companies do recycle as much as they can so isn't not just chucking it in landfill

worldweary45 · 28/08/2020 17:00

I do it every 5 years Blush

No car so I can't get to the tip and we only get fortnightly bin collections so I do tend to hoard

I do love a skip though

If you get a hippo bag/skip, then they say on their website that anything that can be reused/recycled will be, very little ends up in landfill. I don’t know how true that is, but they were fab when we used them

BasiliskStare · 28/08/2020 17:05

One other idea is that if you can get it into one place all at once someone could come round with a van / truck & just shove it all on there so no worrying about skip delivery collection etc. ( I mean not just any old person with a van there are people who drive round and collect "rubbish "

BasiliskStare · 28/08/2020 17:07

Oh and also the chap we had for clearing out PILs house divides everything into different categories for recycling if that is your worry

AiryFairy1 · 28/08/2020 17:11

We booked space on a truck and the driver helped us load everything on it and took it away to sort recycle what could be recycled. It was great!
