Can you recommend a tin opener.

Have used Magican tin openers in the past and used to be fine. Then I bought a Magican Auto which opens tins easily but refuses to release the tin lid. Had to get dh to fiddle each time to do it for me. Now even he can’t do it. If you look at the utube demos you only see the opening but not the release. Lakeland have stopped selling them. I also bought the normal Magican opener but this usually refuses to open tins of salmon etc. Bought a butterfly type from Lydll and that didn’t work. Need to open some more cans. Can anyone help?

This thread is quite old, but if you’ve landed here looking for advice on what kitchen tools to buy, we’ve recently updated our best can opener page with plenty of Mumsnetter-approved products, including both manual and electric options. We hope it’s helpful.

I had a Brabantia that made opening cans effortless and lasted for many many years. I was gutted when it got lost and I have never again had such a good one.

Thank you BrokenLink. Brabrantia is a good, reliable name. I will still look at their site to see if they have anything to offer. So annoying when things are no longer as good as they used to be. This was the same as the Magican tin openers I had for years.

I've got a JML hands free, bought for my left handed dd, it's very easy to use.

We also have the Brabantia tin opener, its the classic one with the metal handle, Amazon sell it for £7.99

Oxo good grips. Even my weedy hands can use it.

Another vote for Oxo Good Grips.

Thank you all so much. Am now all set to investigate and order. The Oxo one came up when I was looking generally and so did the Kuhn. Thank you again you have been so helpful.

Another oxo fan here! Takes the kids off salmon and those pesky fray bentos pie tins 18yo ds likes. Never found another tin opener that compares!

I have two that I just can't get to work even though I've never had problems with them before. Both had good reviews.

Last week I picked up an Ikea basic one and it works like a dream.

I have a brabantia one In effect I'm one handed and this has never failed me

greensnail · 06/09/2020 17:18

I have the lantana 2-in1 and it is the best tin opener I've ever owned.
