I've made a big mistake on my wall!

Not finished yet obviously and will have to do another coat or paint it back to magnolia, either way will have to spend more. Its just on one wall. Regret doing it now.

What can I do to like it more? I'm rubbish with ideas and not crafty and was hoping someone would think of something that I've not thought of. Does anyone actually like it?? I can't post the photo the right way! Mumsnet keeps turning it.

Thanks.

What's the mistake? Have you changed yiur mind about a feature wall?

Kezziethecat · 21/08/2020 08:57

It's very bold so I can see why you're uncertain. Is it just on one wall? I might like it.. hard to tell without seeing the rest of the room. I thjnk you should finish it and then live with it for a few weeks before deciding to paint over. I know it can get expensive but it's only paint so not the worst mistake in the world!

igot20joe · 21/08/2020 08:59

I absolutely love it. We saw a red wall room on an Ikea set the other day and I’m trying to talk DH into it.

MutteringDarkly · 21/08/2020 09:02

I think finish the wall, to a good standard so you're seeing it at its best (if any bits are patchy, sort them out). Then style the room as you would normally have it, so there are things in there. Walk away, have a giant cup of tea, go for a walk even. Come back and look at it fresh - you might love it!

I've had red walls in the living room before and although I gulped a bit putting it on, it really worked. It needed the furniture back in and pictures/mirrors on the walll before it looked right though.

NotMeNoNo · 21/08/2020 09:09

Previous owners of our house were colour addicts. Here's a pic of our red wall. Get some art/accessories with it and then judge Smile

It will look fab after another coat OP! Grin

Justmuddlingalong · 21/08/2020 09:11

It's a bold colour, but it's not finished and still patchy. Give it another coat before you panic. It'll look much better.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/08/2020 09:13

Yes, but I love bold colours

You need to live with it for 3-6months before changing.

Wow thank you! Lots of positive comments there.
I think I agree that it'll look good finished with nice accessories.
It's my bedroom and think it goes quite well with the bedding. I have a nice mirror and a picture to go up. Don't really want to get new curtains and they go with the bedding too.
Thank you again!

@NotMeNoNo that's very nice, and similar colour!
@Palavah a mistake as in, I thought I had done the wrong thing but after the reading these replies and looking at it after work I think I quite like it!

I'm definitely going to finish it and do another coat. Will put my mirror and picture up and maybe get something red to go in the room.

Hi all, I'm looking forward to finishing my wall this weekend!

Quick question - so the red wall is opposite the chimney breast wall, would I have to do the chimney breast the same colour, or could I pick out the beige in my bedding and try and match with some subtle wallpaper? Would it look odd having different colurs opposite each other?

Ta.

We have one wall in our sitting room this colour, other walls are magnolia. Red curtains and rug. Silver mirror looks great on it, or gold for that opulent look. Get a red throw for your bed.

nickelbabe · 27/08/2020 21:30

I say pick out the beige.

nolovelost · 27/08/2020 21:34

It won't let me tag you dementedma but thank you for the reply. Maybe leave the chimney breast as it is then. My light wood framed mirror looks lovely on the red and I bought some colourful photo frames today.

@nickelbabe thank you. 😊

MutteringDarkly · 27/08/2020 21:53

I would stick with the one finished red wall - at least until you're sure you love it Grin Your plans sound lovely.

nolovelost · 27/08/2020 21:58

@MutteringDarkly thank you, yep I agree. I'll concentrate on getting the red done first!

Having 2 opposite walls in such a strong colour would feel like the room was closing in on you. Stick to a neutral colour on the 3 other walls but do what you're doing by using bright accessories.

Oh good point justmuddling, thank you. After I'd done the red it made quite a difference to the brightness in the room too.
@Butterer do it! Think it would look fab in a bathroom, not too dark though 😊

I like it, it's not far from the colour of my kitchen walls. It took four coats for that to stop looking patchy.
