Can't keep on top of house

Ok, so I have a (just turned) 3 year old and a 4 month old. I am looking for ideas - maybe a weekly routine etc to make sure that I can keep on top of the house.

I've recently realised just how much I've let the house go. I feel like every single minute of my day is taken up looking after the kids, and like I have no time to do basic things like clean, wash clothes, Hoover.

They are both asleep by about 830 and I just want to spend an hour and a half doing nothing before bed. I developed epilepsy during my second pregnancy and therefore I try not to exert myself as I don't want to risk having any more seizures.

Currently the only cleaning routine I have is when my partner gets home from work about 6, we both tidy downstairs (dishwasher on, wipe sides in kitchen, empty bins, sweep floors, put toys away, quick mop). He works Mon-Fri and so I only really have weekends to try and clean, but obviously we want to spend some of that time as a family.

Partner will happily take the kids to his Mums for a few hours so that I can try and clean, but I feel really guilty getting him to do this every weekend. I have a lot of help from my MIL and occasionally my Mum in terms of childcare. so I feel like I haven't got any excuse, but I find it so difficult to keep on top of everything.

Someone please tell me how the hell they manage to keep a house clean with 2 children. I'm back in work next year, so literally zero idea how I plan on keeping it clean then. I have friends with 1 child and their house is absolutely immaculate. Mine absolutely isn't. Help me.

I'd recommend looking into flylady or TOMM for inspiration. There is an amazing flylady thread on here with super friendly people if you need moral support. I am just expecting my first, so I don't really have much experience of keeping the house going with wee ones. Hopefully someone who has some first hand experience will pop around soon ☺️

I could have written this. I find I'm sinking everyday. I just don't know how other people manage.

Mate, I can't keep on top of our house and I don't have any children!

It is bloody hard and bloody boring is cleaning.

The answer I think is some sort of timetable. Break it down into little parts rather than get overwhelmed by the whole thing.

Is it possible for you to afford a cleaner once or twice a week? So you only have to keep on top of it In between? I personally can't afford it but a couple of my friends have cleaners and they say it's done them wonders!

Second TOMM - there's a set routine Monday to Friday, which means no weekend work beyond the basics. Its always less than an hour a day too.

But tbh I never kept up with everything when the DC were that little; just about kept basic hygiene maintained.
