How to stop new throw smelling

I have recently bought a large throw for my sofa, and it arrived with a kind of chemical smell (perhaps from the dyes used). I have washed it twice and it still smells. Does anyone have any advice about how to get the smell out without damaging the colour? Apparently bicarbonate of soda can get rid of smells in some situations, but I don’t know whether it would work on this, and whether it would make the dye fade. I’d be grateful to know if anyone has solved a similar problem! Thanks! Smile

Stick it outside on the rope dry maybe the fresh air will waft about it or just wait till it starts to blend in with the smell of your house

Was it dear?

Contact the manufacturer and tell them. That way if they tell you to do something and it doesn’t work it’s on them. Or they may say that it shouldn’t smell like that and there must have been a fault and they should take it back at their postal expense as it’s faulty and replace.

This seems to be so common place now.

Bicarb is good at neutralising "natural" smells but in this case you want to air off the chemical residue.

If you have the energy complain.

By the way you don't have to wash with the bicarb. I sprinkle powder on material sofas etc and vacuum off after leaving in to work for a while.

I would try washing it again with a cup full of vinegar tossed in.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. Good plan to contact the company - I’ll do that.

Unfortunately I don’t have a garden or balcony, so can’t hang it outside.

Spare room and an open window?
