Horrible smell...

From the back of my dishwasher?! I have pulled it out, nothing dead or rotten behind it. Inside the dishwasher smells fine and the dishes all come out lovely and clean, no smell. It is stinking out my whole kitchen 24-7 Blush I have run cleaners etc but no good. It is 5 years old. I'm thinking there could be fat/decaying bits of food (lovely thought!) Stuck in the waste hose pipe. Is that possible? I'm literally pulling my hair out and this awful stink. Hard to even explain the smell....off, rotten, vile! Worse when the weather is warmer?? Someone please help before I take to it with a hammer Sad

Yes could be rotten food stuff in the pipes , is the dishwasher connect to the main drain ? Could be a smell of that coming up from the drain ? Our drain smells something rotten sometimes in summer

The hose is connected to the main drain yes. The sink itself smells fine. I regularly put soda crystals down there with hot water. My thinking that there is rotting food/grease in the dishwasher drain hose is because we never used to have the hose looped higher than sink level. Didn't know it was needed until I saw it mentioned on mumsnet. So nasties could have been building up for years perhaps. Have no idea how to change or clean the hose....will I have to replace the dishwasher? Shock

So you use dishwasher salt int he bottom compartment?

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/08/2020 18:45

Have you tried a dishwasher cleaner?

Pan44 · 05/08/2020 18:53

It will be the drain that the dishwasher feeds into...the gunk that backs up in there is beyond vile. Literally smells like shit tbh. I know because I recently had to clear my elderly mums drain that had over flowed due to blockage, by hand I should add, and the stench was horrendous!! I'm due an OBE or similar I reckon.

Yes the salt is always topped up and I use a cleaner monthly (always have) The drain in backs into? The washing machine and sink is all connected to the same thing. They both smell fine, which is why I'm confused by it. I have checked the outside drain and also used a drain cleaner to make sure also.
