Cleaning limescale from under the loo rim?

I live in a very hard water area and don't have a water softener - getting one is not currently an option.

Under the loo rim has limescale that nothing I've so far tried can shift and it's starting to really bother me. Does anyone have a super limescale busting tips? I've tried soaking it in supposedly limescale tackling toilet duck, leaving and then scrubbing. Same with spray on limescale remover. No luck. Anything else I could try?

I've just got into the habit of using limescale remover monthly.

I remember on "How clean as your house" they use to use bottles of cola to clean toilets as it contains acid and is cheap.

Scrub it off with a brillo pad. Disgusting but nothing chemical ever touched it.

Steam cleaner is quite good too but I find them hard to use and they spray the limescale bits around too much for me

Well the 2p tip from another thread worked on the chrome taps. I can't see why it wouldn't work on this too. Worth a try.
Just wet a 2p coin and scrape.

Mine was only removable through scrubbing until I started using toilet duck with bleach rather than the limescale one. It's thick and clear and removed the hideous stains in one go.

Spirits of salt

Thanks for all the tips. I'll update when I've got around to trying some Grin

I used harpic limescale bottle

Sympathies from a fellow hard water sufferer.. scrubbing, and I'm back to harpic power plus loo cleaner, the limescale one didn't touch it for some reason.

Bleach and washing up liquid and a touch of elbowgreece.

I’ve been trying for months, toilet use sparkling apart from the rim. I’ve tried professional limescale remover, steamer, 2p (just scratched the enamel didn’t budge the stains) harpic black limescale cleaner, I left it on for the week we were away and it’s not made a difference.

starlingsintheslipstream · 01/08/2020 20:34

I'd try soaking some loo roll in white vinegar, wedging it in there and leaving it overnight.

Ooh my topic! Basically my toilet smelt and I couldn't work out where it was coming from
I squirted a load of limescale remover under the rim and then got up there with my hands, a knife and a flannel, dragging the flannel along under the rim seemed to work well
Then I got a portable bidet bottle, filled that with hot water and squirted under the rim and the force of the water rinsed out Envy a load of brown sheets of limescale
Attacked it from all angles and it's now perfect!

Egad I am not looking forward to this job, but I can ignore it no longer. It makes me feel physically nauseous Confused

Harpic Limescale remover, either the blue or black bottle. never found anything better. you might need a few goes if there's a buildup to get rid of.

I love my water softener. It was bloody expensive, but I believe with these, you get what you pay for.

I have the Harvey's one. I'd buy another one tomorrow if anything happened to this one & it wasn't repairable.

Great customer service when
I had a problem too!

When you have one installed it gradually removes the limescale from everywhere! Underneath the loo rim definitely took the longest to remove.

Pre the HWS I spent way too much time & money removing limescale - it's worth every penny!

I don't work for them, but maybe I should!! 🤣😂

Jeremyironsnothing · 02/08/2020 21:18

i have to say, our water softener is fab too. I baulked at spending so much, but Dh wanted it for his skin. I'd also buy another tomorrow if this one stopped working.
