Smelly washing machine

I’ve just been reading the other thread about smelly washing machine, but my problem is a bit different.
Because of the smelly machine, I have to take the washing out as soon as cycle finishes or it would smell. I’ve also taken to emptying the filter drawer every other wash. There’s never anything in the filter, but the water that comes out smells like egg.

I’ve tried everything. I even tried dishwasher tablets after reading about that somewhere. Nothing has worked. I’m fed up now. Can’t really afford to buy another machine, but apart from the smell, nothing else wrong with it. Anyone any other ideas? Thanks.

I do a boil wash with a bit of bleach in the drawer and it always seems to do the trick.

Have you checked the rubber seal round the door? The folds can fill with a grey gunge that can get smelly if you don't clean it.

Calton tablets sorted mine out, I use them probably every other wash and its gone completely

Zoflora wipes around the drum. Leave the door open. Check the drain pipe isn't clogged up

Thanks. I’ll give those things a try.

Call me odd but I bloody love a good smelly washing machine thread! (hence my username)

Everything everyone else has said and also what kind of laundry detergent do you use on a daily basis? Powder (especially bio) is much better at keeping the machine clean. Liquid, while better for not fading colours is a bit gunky for the machine. Powders contain bleach which keeps the machine clean.

I would do a good long hot wash (90 degrees) with a dash of bleach.

Then to maintain a stink free machine I would do regular hot washes with vinegar, and/or a small amount of bio powder.
