Iron cleaning help

pooopypants · 22/07/2020 16:09

My iron looks knackered and I've only had it about a year. I've done the whole paracetamol thing and that seems to get off the sticky bits but it doesn't remove most of the stains and it definitely isn't as smooth as it used to be

Any ideas?

how on earth did it get like that? Think you can buy Iron cleaners.

dementedpixie · 22/07/2020 16:30

Goigling suggests a paste of bicarbonate of soda or toothpaste

So have used bi carb on mine but I think Lakeland have a cleaner.

pooopypants · 22/07/2020 19:29

@dementedpixie I don't know, I used to mainly iron school uniform (black trousers) but it's gotten to this point. Nothing I've tried has worked.

I meant to say, I've also tried toothpaste on a cloth and that did nothing.

The marks you can see aren't sticky and you can't feel it. I've never had an iron do this!

Maybe try astonish oven and cookware cleaner on it

LittlemissAWOL · 22/07/2020 20:26

Turn the iron on an using a pair of tweezers rub a paracetamol on it. I have the same iron which was in a worse state and this got everything off.

dementedpixie · 22/07/2020 20:27

Op said she'd tried using paracetamol already

reallifegetsintheway2 · 23/07/2020 08:53
