Steam mop....worth it?

I'm considering a steam mop - we live in a loooong flat with wood laminate throughout except bathroom (tiles) and bedrooms (carpet). I'm SO. BORED. of wiping down floors.

Worth it, do you think?
Recommendations?

I got one free with a carpet washer - but if I knew then what I know now I would of bought one yonks ago.

Makes things very simple, as long as you hoover first

soasnottoappeargreedy · 18/07/2020 11:51

What brand do you have, @Furball? How does it work with plugging in etc?

Mines a vax and the lead is really short - so I have to have it with an extension lead.

But fill it with water, plug in and off you go. dries quick and I don't use any cleaner - I bought one,but it left smeary marks, so now I just use water

I have one,but I don't use it on laminate. I completely ruined my previous laminate kitchen floor with the steam mop. The steam gets under the laminate and lifts it.
It's brilliant on stone and Lino though.

love my vax. I use it on laminate and been ok. Quick floors really clean and u can wash pad.

I have a Shark and think it's useless. A complete waste of money.

I have this and think it's brilliant

sharkclean.co.uk/product/shark-klik-n-flip-steam-pocket-mop-s6003uk/

Comes with 2 cloths so one on, one in wash.

Has 3 different heat settings so can use the lowest heat for laminate (it says in the guide what level to use for what type of floor)

It heats up almost instantly and the lead is long enough IMO

Couldn't go back to an old dirty mop now. Knowing that the steam mop kills bacteria is reassuring and always feels much cleaner.

TJ17 · 21/07/2020 17:44

Oh and forgot to mention the best bit where you can flip the cloth over to use the other (clean) side all with the touch of a button so no need to touch it.
It's pricey but it has really good reviews. I know a lot of cheaper ones don't have great reviews

Love mine! Tap water and an extension lead is all you need although I do pour a capful of zoflora on the floor and steam it around the room Grin smells amazing and absolutely no streaks or damp floors.

linoleum · 21/07/2020 18:00

I love mine (Vax). Got it free with a carpet cleaner and it’s absolutely brilliant. Clean hygienic floors in less than half the time it took me to mop them. I also use it to clean other things - hob, oven, tiled walls of shower cubicle etc. Get one.

Timesdone · 21/07/2020 18:32

No, I've had 3, all rubbish. Stick to a mop & bucket.

Timesdone · 21/07/2020 18:33

They were all good makes too, Vax, Shark & a German one whose name I have forgotten

DerekTheDodo · 21/07/2020 18:35

I love mine. I got extra pads from ebay quite cheaply so I have a separate one I keep just for the bathroom.

gingercat02 · 21/07/2020 19:08

Most laminate companies say not to use them check with the brand you have before you spend

HermioneWeasley · 21/07/2020 19:10

I have a karcher and it’s brilliant, but I wouldn’t use it on laminate
