How many clothes does a 2 y.o. need? Help me work out what I need to buy this weekend so she doesn't go naked!

Dd appears to have suddenly grown out of all her clothes (that or I've shrunk everything!)at once apart from a couple of summer items and a stupid bikini her grandmother gave her so I need to go and do a big shop this weekend otherwise I'll find myself sending her out wrapped in a blanket.
So that I don't waste loads of money, could some mners who are bound to be more practical than me tell me how many of each item I need to get (e.g. x pairs of trousers, x long sleeved tops, x jumpers etc) - there's no point in me looking at what she has at the moment as dd got so many presents when she was born I've not really had to buy anything until now and have an enormous wardrobe of newborn-18mth old stuff half of which has only been worn once or twice (clearly I'll be straight on ebay once dd2 has used them ).

My daughter (2.10) was in the same predicament three weeks ago.

Our situation is complicated by the fact that she has a semi-school uniform of white tops, navy blue or grey trousers or skirt or dress, navy cardigan, navy raincoat, navy winter coat - no particular brand but must be plain and of course she hates it and won't wear any of the school stuff for a minute outside school .

For school:

  • two pairs navy skinny jeans (Gap, they look great)
  • one dungaree jeans skirt
  • two long-sleeved white t-shirts
  • one blue/grey wool sweater dress
  • one grey skirt
  • one thin navy v-neck jumper
  • one navy heavy duty cotton cardigan
  • navy pack-a-mac type jacket
  • thick lined navy winter coat
  • pink desert boots
  • 3 pairs white socks

For home:

  • pink/beige sweater dress
  • pink/beige thick wool hooded cardigan
  • one pale pink tracksuit
  • one white tutu (much worn )
  • one pair of faded blue boot cut jeans
  • one pair khaki combats
  • one blue, one brown long sleeved t-shirt
  • one frilly white cotton blouse
  • one frilly flowered cotton blouse
  • one thick black wool cable polo neck
  • 3 pairs coloured socks
  • one pair black tights
  • red Hunter wellies

Very keen on washing mazzystar but unfortunately I don't get to indulge my passion regularly and on a timely basis as I work during the week so the ironing tends to pile up for the weekend so I need enough clothes to at least keep her going for a week (with margin for getting messy and starting potty training).

anna - how do you get away with no pink ?????

Anna8888 · 28/09/2007 15:39

Hardly anything I bought needs ironing... I love long-sleeved t-shirts for that (tumble a bit and hang on a hanger to dry) and jeans... and sweater dresses

Anna8888 · 28/09/2007 15:41

There is a bit of pink there in the weekend wardrobe - the first three items and the flowery blouse.

And I forgot a pair of lurid pink velvet jeans and a pink t-shirt with a pony on - they were in the laundry cupboard when I typed this.

Anna8888 · 28/09/2007 15:41

Oh, also forgot a purple striped long-sleeved t-shirt... also just been washed.

anna - i think you have a new career oportunity as a child stylist , my dd2 wears whatever fits her from dd1 hand me downs with a few new things thrown in if desparte, havign said that dd1 used to get new seasonal wardrobe 4 time a year all beutifully co-ordinated and matching shoes etc etc, was definitely a PFB !!!

Anna8888 · 28/09/2007 16:00

My daughter has two older brothers (12, 10) so hand-downs not really an option .

We love buying her clothes .
