What’s the best loo cleaner for getting rid of smell?!

I’m allergic to bleach; what else is good?!

I’d like to be eco-friendly if possible, but found Ecover not super-effective against smell.

Grateful for any suggestions!

Light a match then use ecover?

What does your toilet smell of? We clean ours once or twice a week and it doesn't smell at all luckily. We just use a bit of Sainsbury's or Lidl pine loo cleaner.

Have you got a plumbing problem?

Jessie2345678 · 03/07/2020 22:07

I’m not aware of a plumbing problem - the loo flushes fine - but I’m really puzzled, because in other places I’ve lived, I’ve not necessarily cleaned the loo every day, and it has not smelled. Here I’m always cleaning it and it smells - as for what the smell is like, I guess it’s maybe how a loo would smell if it were not cleaned!

Your loo shouldn't smell so there's either something wrong with it or with your cleaning method.

cakeandchampagne · 03/07/2020 22:57

How long have you lived there/had a problem?
It may not be your product or method, but smells from a previous mess on porous surfaces/in crevices.

Snowinsummer · 03/07/2020 22:59

Likely to be the loo seat. I'd replace that & then see how it smells

QueenCT · 03/07/2020 23:05

Have you checked up under the rim? Mine was a bit whiffy and I got under there with a knife and found loads of grim brown limescale Envy
Smell gone

TheHighestSardine · 03/07/2020 23:05

Take a mirror/phone and look under the rim. When we bought, ours ponged and turned out there were brown stalactites under the edge that needed chipping off. Hard water scale plus everything gross you'd expect. Grim.

We actually replaced the bathroom. During which we also discovered that the two young boys from the previous family had missed a lot, and that had soaked into the now-stinky floorboards. Replaced those too.

My toilet smells of pee all the time. Not sure why, there is only me. I think I pee forwards Grin

Thank you very much for the replies. I will have a look under the rim. I moved in here last year and replaced the loo seat, so I don’t think it can be that. I’ve used the same cleaning method elsewhere and not had a smelly loo, so I think the method must be ok! I also had a new bathroom floor last year, so no wee soaked into floorboards!

My toilet doesn't smell. Well the only time it was a bit whiffy, was when it was blocked for three days a bit ago. If I have any zoflora,I sometimes out just a few tiny drops in the toilet water, and it fragrances the bath room all round.
