30 Day Decluttering Challenge

I know there are threads for decluttering but I wondered if anyone would be up for this?

I’ve had a look at a few and have attached one that I quite liked. Some don’t apply to me (sadly I lack a laundry room and a linen closet) but I can do something else on those days.

I’m about to put my house on the market so I think now is a great time to declutter.

I’ll be starting on 01/07/20.

Oh yes please! I am WFH so have 5 x 2 x 30-40 minute commutes less than before every day. So I must be able to get on board with this! Will get DC involved too x

Fabulous idea. Every so often I get what I call "the urge to purge", and this looks like a useful systematic approach.

How's everyone getting on?

I started on the 1st and was a bit keen so I'm up to day 7 now but we also did everyone's clothes over the last couple of days, so that's 4 future days covered too. Tomorrow will be a piece of piss, I bought about 5 make up items 14 years ago for my wedding and that is the extent of my collection 🤣

I'm slightly late but do like the look of the 30 different tasks here. They seem like fairly realistic activities that I could tackle on a daily basis. Saying that I will start on Wednesday - or might do them out of order! Hope everyone else is making good progress so far...

I did my purse today, and all my handbags. At the moment I feel like I may never go out to use a handbag again!

I included DD's school bag in the bag/purse day. She's 8, there was an astonishing number of tiny pieces of precious paper and wrappers Grin. I stuck them all through the washing machine.

Make up done, including washing my make up brushes and hair brushes. I did chuck a little bit of make up but have also discovered I’m good for hand cream for the next two years!

I've done the tea/coffee/mugs/supplements/dishwasher things etc cupboard. Threw out some Nesquik DH insisted he wanted that was 2 years out of date and barely used.

Oh and I removed some out of date medication, put it by to take the pharmacy for disposal one day. I need to choose a second cupboard to do this afternoon. I have 4 very messy drawers I could choose from ....

We are doing the cars today, the kids thought it would be fun. Jeez the crap in them was something! Mostly just rubbish so very easy to clear. I've hoovered them out too.

I did a big bookcase/dresser thing in my kitchen today which wasn’t really two cupboards but was an absolute mess. I don’t have loads of cupboards so I’ll have done them all by the end.

The challenge is quite achievable.

Bathroom/medicine cupboard done. Not too much in there that was rubbish. Some expired nappy cream (I no longer have children in nappies!), expired teething gel and expired baby inhaler. I cleaned the empty cupboard and put everything back in tidily, duplicates in use by date order.

I also cleared out under the bath - our bathroom is in need of replacing, the bath panel long since broke and is gone, and the dark dusty space underneath is inhabited by Boris the giant spider, bath toys no longer played with, random cleaning sponges that fell off the top of the cupboard and rolled under there, a leaking mini travelling shampoo, a bin bag and some ball pool balls. Not any more!

Well Boris is still there, I think he lives under the broken floorboard so he can continue to terrorise DD when she goes for a middle of the night wee.

Done the under the sink cupboard of cleaning supplies today. I thought we were on our last bin bag but it turns out there were 2 more rolls stashed at the back under some newspaper so that's a result 🙂

Drawers done, hoovered out and wiped, out of date stuff and random Christmas hamper items we are never going to eat removed.
