Crying over spilt milk!

Yes, you guessed it, I've spilt milk all over my carpet.. four pints of it :-( I have saturated the carpet with disinfectant and zoflora but to no avail, it STINKS! I have borrowed my Mum's carpet shampooer, any recommendations which shampoo would be the best to use? And will shampooing get rid of the horrible smell?

I’ve done this before OP, not quite as much as your 4 pints but it absolutely stank!

You need cloths to soak up as much of it as you can. I then washed the area with a bit of washing up liquid in a bowl of water. Left to dry then sprinkled in carb on it and left it over night then hoovered it up the next day. I must of still had he smell in my nostrils and no one else could smell it but I then took to using shake and vac on that carpet for a few days!

Sour milk stinks. But the good news is it will pass eventually.

Carry on getting as much as you can up and washing the carpet. As PP says bicarbonate and probably industrial amounts not the supermarket pots.

I think, having been through that smell though, and with the amount you've spilt I'd be lifting the carpets to check the underlay too.

Do you have Rug Doctors in the UK? We can hire them from supermarkets and they are quite powerful machines that you load up with water and shampoo. The machine sucks the shampoo mixture and the water out of the carpet as it goes.
