I have downloaded the app. I have 4 kids kids and hoarding tendencies! My house is a utter tip since lockdown and with my yr R dd back in school am ready to change my habits. Anyone want to join me?

What is TOMM?

Winecheesesleep · 23/06/2020 10:47

I've just started this and about to reach the end of my boot camp. The house is looking amazing and I'm really hoping I can keep on top of it and keep up the 30 minutes a day. It's all been getting on top of me with all of us home so much so really needed this.

birthdaybelle the organised mum method. It’s a cleaning schedule.

2nd week of clean sheet Tuesdays. Lovely weather for it too! Trying to get the DCs to tidy their bedroom... it’s not going as smoothly as I’d hoped but there’s a little progress there.

@birthdaybelle The Organised Mum Method

She has a lot of free resources on the website and also a book and app. I bought the kindle book for 99p and it's a quick read. I've found the app really helpful too to check off the bootcamp jobs I've done.

Thanks guys!

HanPanPeg · 14/09/2020 11:53

Does anyone want to resurrect this thread? Are you still TOMM-ing and is it working? I just started today

Liskee · 14/09/2020 21:34

I've been doing this now for about 8/9 weeks. I freaking love it! The house is pretty much presentable to the public (is they were allowed in Wink) all week and the Level 2 jobs are mostly getting done in 30 mins. I'm fitting in the Level 1 jobs across about 10 - 20 mins at the start and end of the day and have customised the app over the last couple of months to suit our house and my routine. I'm even getting big jobs that have never been done sorted! The children have even bought into it and are helping out with wee jobs here and there. Totally on board with the system and highly recommend Grin

I’ve been doing tomm for around a year. I’ve had weeks where I’ve done nothing due to one thing or another and it’s great because it doesn’t take much to get back into.
Although I still hate Tuesdays!

HanPanPeg · 15/09/2020 13:28

Ah that’s great - would love my house to presentable, at the moment I probably need at least a full day before people can set foot in it!

Tuesdays seem a bit mammoth if you have bedrooms plural!

Yankathebear · 15/09/2020 17:34

@HanPanPeg I never attempt more than one bedroom. Although my dc are older so can (supposedly) sort their own rooms. One of the level 3’s is kids rooms so I do a half hour occasionally in there. I decided to swap tomorrow and today around so hallway and stairs today and bedroom tomorrow. I’m stalling Grin

Hello 👋
I'm just getting into this with DH. We have adult DC, one living with us temporarily as theya wfh and DH and I are now working part-time.
So, this should be a cinch, but it's day 2 of week 1 and it's taking much longer than it's supposed to.
We do have a large 4-bed house which we haven't kept on top of so I guess it will take longer.
I've printed off the 8 week schedule rather than download the app - is it worth having the app too?
The kitchen/utility room clean has so far taken over an hour today, with both of us going at it hell for leather.
Please tell me this gets easier!
I'm hoping it will encourage both of us to be tidier... We'll see.

Moodykat · 17/09/2020 10:49

I started on Monday - along with 16:8 "diet".
I am loving it. I drop the kids to school and then power through my 30 minutes before starting work. It makes me feel more awake and motivated for work too which is a massive bonus.
The house doesn't look amazing as there is lots to sort out but definitely getting there!

HanPanPeg · 17/09/2020 11:42

On the bedroom day I just did my toddler’s bedroom - thoroughly - but took an hour! Didn’t even bother with our bedroom.

Just hoping it gets easier / quicker each week as it’s less and less of a mess.

I’m also trying to declutter but not on the TOMM method.

Haven’t downloaded the app yet but will do so if I can keep to it for the next 2 or 3 weeks!

Yankathebear · 17/09/2020 22:52

@Myfridgeisamess stop after 30 minutes if you want. It will still be there next week.

I like the app because I love a tick list but have adapted it.

dinosaurtin · 21/09/2020 12:40

I’m going to join you all. I was on another TOMM thread a while ago but with lockdown etc I fell off the wagon. I did manage to keep up the cleaning but now both children are at school and I have a little more breathing space in my week I’m keen to get back. I do really notice the difference in my house and my head when I am TOMMing. I’ve swapped the days around to better suit when I’m at work. So today is hall and stairs etc.

HanPanPeg · 22/09/2020 12:53

This is my second week - and I have noticed a difference in the time spent (although overall the house is still full of STUFF).

Last week I spent nearly 2 hours cleaning my toddler’s room (it’s not big but I did do it really thoroughly) and this week it was more like the 30minutes. Obviously still haven’t moved on to our room!

Also think I need to swap around rooms as definitely lose motivation by Wednesday and the hallway wasn’t done at all last week Grin

Myfridgeisamess · 22/09/2020 21:33

@yankathebear Thank you! It's getting easier. Smile

UndertheCedartree · 23/09/2020 16:54

I have been doing TOMM for a couple of weeks now - it is really helping. It gives me head space as I don't need to work out what to clean!

HanPanPeg · 23/09/2020 17:43

Another failed Wednesday! I have my toddler at home and I can’t get anything done - how do SAHP do it? The house always looks like a bomb’s hit it. ‘Tidy up time’ is the best we get but no real cleaning to speak of!

Yankathebear · 23/09/2020 22:44

@HanPanPeg could toddler join in?

UndertheCedartree · 24/09/2020 07:03

Cbeebies for 15 min just so you can do level 1 jobs? Do you have a partner - 15 min each while other entertains toddler?

dinosaurtin · 24/09/2020 20:32

@HanPanPeg when my DC want to join in with cleaning I give them a cloth and a small amount of water, would they do that? Gem talks about having a clean rather then tidy home because you are living in it, maybe you can chanel that thought for a while!

I’ve not managed a full 30mins tue or wed but Iv did manage level 1 jobs, and a small clean each day. Today is one of my days off TOMM, I’m always knackered today and never got anything done so rearranged.

YorkshireParentalPerson · 26/09/2020 20:10

I follow tomm, but I do it first thing in the morning whilst everybody is getting ready for school or work. I'm always last one out of the house so my final job is wiping round the loo and the sink and putting cleaner down the loo.

This definitely works better if you don't have to tidy first, remember the 30 minutes is literally just cleaning, not tidying. The more weeks you follow the method the better it gets, and if you miss a week it doesn't matter, you'll just catch it next week.

For the pp who was struggling with bedrooms, if it helps I do my son's room one week and ours the next. It works for me and I love not having to worry over a weekend.

dinosaurtin · 29/09/2020 21:23

I’m still doing well TOMMing. Some days I don’t get all the 30mins in but I have followed my days/areas and the house is looking better! I have also re-remembered how much you can get done in a short amount of time. So for example the other day I worked from home and every hour I spent 5 mins tidying a large bookshelf. By the end of the day it was looking great. My downfall is always a few weeks in when the house is tidy and I think I can get away without doing any cleaning.
