Every time I put a wash on, the kitchen smells like rotten eggs

It’s an integrated washing machine and I’m wondering if I need a plumber? I’ve unscrewed the U shaped pipe under the sink - it’s not that. I’ve poured boiling water / crystals down sink plug hole - didn’t help. I’ve put washer on self clean cycle with Dr Beckmann powder and that didn’t work either! Help!

Yes you probably do need a plumber. Does the machine itself smell when it's empty?

I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that electrical issues can sometimes smell like that.

MellowBird85 · 13/06/2020 15:49

@Chicchicchicchiclana a little bit damp maybe (think I should leave the door open more) but certainly nothing like rotten eggs!

I reckon its your waste pipe rather than the machine. Mine can smell like this. It doesn't at the moment and I'm trying to think if I have done anything differently. Maybe try a 90 wash?

I have this issue too. It's when the dishwasher or washing machine empty and the smell wafts up through the sink.

Mine does that too if I haven’t put the crystals or drain unblocker down recently. I need to do it monthly.

Put the plug in the sink next time you do a wash to stop the smell wafting up as much.

Start doing a 90 degree maintenance wash in your machine monthly too per manufactures instructions.

We had the exact same issue. Dh pulled the pipe off the back of the washing machine, it was choc full of sludge so he flushed that out then poured Jeyes fluid down the sinks and outside drains. It’s sorted the problem out, no more rotten egg smell.
