Struggling with housework - anyone else?

We have quite a small house for 5 of us. We’ve recently had a good clear out (with a skip!) and I thought this would help but essentially I think we’re all just quite messy! I used to think it was everyone else but recently I’ve had a eureka moment and realised I am too!

I work from home (childminder) and am trying to use the TOMM app but it just feels never ending and constant. It never looks ‘done’. Everyone else’s house look immaculate even if they have small children!

Anyone else either feel the same or used to feel the same and have a solution?

We have a load of wicker baskets Everywhere that I use to throw all the toys - I find a clean floor makes things appear a bit more organised and tidy!!

We definitely have too much stuff and are all untidy too, so recipe for disaster. I just can’t seem to get in a routine.

You might still have too much stuff. A blogger/YouTube once said that because they were messy they couldn’t have very many things as it was always a mess, so they had to minimise quite a lot more than expected to get it to a stage where things were put away properly.

I think we would need to get rid of basically 50% of our stuff including some furniture for things to work in our house.

We do have too much stuff for the size of our house but honestly there’s very very little left to give away. We need it! That sounds like a hoarders answer I know, but I find it very easy to give things away/chuck out. The problem is probably working and living in the same space.

Yes, I don’t know how you can be minimal as a childminder, as you need enough things to entertain the mindees.

I have just been thinking the same
Thing. Was just reading a thread about how poodle deep clean once a week etc.
We are a family of six and I spend my whole life cleaning. It still looks the same.
I am fairly minimal but the kids rooms are a mess!

I'm with you on the constant state of mess. Not sure what the answer

Murmurur · 08/06/2020 09:10

I don't have a solution, I can never manage to eliminate the last few piles and I imagine childminding must make it a lot harder, what with different age toys, resources & paperwork.

Have you tried taking photos of your rooms and looking at what you would hide if you were being really ruthless, Eg to sell the house? We did a massive clear back to sell ours and we loved it so much afterwards we considered not moving after all! But we'd never have cleared back to that extent otherwise.

Also at least once a day, if you are tidying then others should be too.
