Help identifying beeping noise near our house

Hi,

We recently moved into a lovely new home. In recent weeks, we've noticed a high-pitched sound coming from somewhere nearby...

Maybe twice a minute, all day and night, we can hear any of a number of beeps; one long beep for a couple of seconds, or anything up to four shorter beeps in a couple of seconds. There's plenty more houses close by on all sides, though it's hard to tell what direction it's coming from. It's not loud, but loud enough to hear from inside if the windows are open and the house is quiet.

If anyone has any clue what it might be, your help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
K

Do any of your close neighbours have a hot tub in the garden? I've noticed my neighbours hot tub makes a beeping noise about twice a minute but it's only audible very late at night when everyone is inside/in bed and there's no background noise.

Does its sound a bit like a high pitched dog whining noise? There’s a couple of different houses up our road which have this noise, (it’s not a dog because it’s all the time) it seems to be coming from outside the house not inside, other half can’t hear it as it’s past his frequency but I can very clearly hear it.

Is it one of those cat sensors?
Sometimes the little brown box outside our house bloody beeps

I too was going to say have your neighbours got a hot tub?
My neighbour’s hot tub drives me nuts, if it’s not beeping it’s whooshing.

Cat deterrent alarm in a garden nearby?

Karin90 · 02/06/2020 22:05

Thanks a lot, guys.

Not sure what we can even do about it, but finding out what it is would be a start.

Will have to look on Google Earth for a neighbouring hot tub! It's a pretty high frequency - the kind that some (older?) people can't hear, and though it's not loud, is pretty annoying for anyone who can.

My first thought was it's some kind of animal deterrent, but I didn't think we were supposed to hear that kind of high frequency??

You can get mole repellers but they are more like every 15/20 mins

It'll be a cat scarer. It must be very nearby, they have a small range. Maybe ask your new neighbours if they have one.

I've got a bleeping inside the house!
