How many capsules of washing liquid?

Could someone please help me with my dosing? I have a large capacity washing machine and I am recently bought some Persil 3 in 1 capsules. My machine has a dosing aid that tells me I need 47ml for the load I am putting in. The capsules are 27g each according to the packet. How am I to convert this?

What does the capsule box say? I'd try 1 and see if your clothes are clean. If not, try 2. This is where powder is easier as you can adjust dosage easily

I just put two in. I have a 9kg drum. Nothing bad happens.

picklemewalnuts · 31/05/2020 08:18

Washing machine repair men say you need a much smaller amount than is claimed so I'd go with one.

It builds up over time so you do a hot machine cleaning wash, or a hot wash with clothes but without soap, to clear it out.

Ariel ones say 1 capsule for lightly soiled or up to 5kg, 2 capsules for heavily soiled or over 5kg.

I have a 7kg machine and use two. I would think persil is much the same.

Fwiw, I did try with one and it didn't get everything clean by a long stretch.

Thanks all. My machine is a 10kg machine and I chucked two in. All has come out clean. I normally use powder but was tempted by a special offer on the capsules. I also think we probably don't need as much as the packet tells us. I also wondered if there is fabric conditioner in the capsules? What are the three mysterious liquids?

I think I have been on lockdown too long!

I always use 2. Otherwise things don’t come out completely clean... but I may just have a mucky family! I also use fabric softener as well even though some capsules have it in them.. I just like the smell.

dementedpixie · 31/05/2020 16:17

They dont contain fabric softener. Think Bold is the one that includes it

BillywigSting · 01/06/2020 08:33

Some have fabric conditioner some don't. The ones that are just one liquid are just detergent, the ones with three have fabric conditioner in them. Not sure what the third mystery liquid is though?

I always use only one (extremely soft water here).

Besides own branded capsules (of which I'm sure there is a load), there is only one brand of capsule that comes with fabric softener built in and that's Bold (as this is the only branded "2in1" on the the market) - the rest do not the 3 compartments are a detergent, stain remover and a brightener.

They're kept separate in the 3 chambers to keep the formula stable until the wash cycle (keeping cleaning chemical ingredients stable in a liquid solution is actually a pretty difficult thing).

I have a large washing machine, I always use two. I sometimes find the coating seems to leave residue on the clothing though, so I prefer liquid to capsules usually.

liquid isn't good for machines. Capsules are an incredibly expensive way of buying liquid. Go back to powder.

I have to use liquid as we are on a septic tank which powder blocks - the washing machine is less important. Use around a third of the recommended amount.

kirkandpetal · 11/06/2020 23:26

Honestly, get the Formil washing powders from Lidl. Best stuff ever, much cheaper than branded stuff. I don't use as much as the packet says - of course they want you to use their (inflated) dosage so you go through it quicker.

We do live in Scotland so soft water which does help.

2 capsules. X
