Hi, my husband has helpfully hoovered out the inside of his car, thus breaking our vacuum cleaner with something stuck inside. We are currently looking at new ones but I thought I would ask in here for your recommendations - any fab, not so fab, or ones you wouldn't touch with a barge pole?! Thank you!

We bought the Shark Liftaway (corded) two years ago and think it's very good. Would buy again.

Get a Miele.

You won't buy another brand after that.

Sebo - I've never loved a vacuum cleaner before. We have an X4 Pet which has a boost button.

My vac hoover blew up last week, great timing when money is tight! I usually buy one every 18 months as I seem to kill them! I think it's because I usually buy cheap. I've invested in the shark lift away and I have to say it's the best Hoover I've ever used!! Amazed at what it's picked up and is really handy with the stairs and been able to lift away from the bottom bit. Cost £189 from Argos which I thought was a bargain for a shark. Definitely won't use anything else now, also comes with a 5 yr warranty which will hopefully help me been the hoover killer.

We’ve had a Dyson, a Shark and a Miele. We now have a Sebo which blows them all out of the water

A Henry. Every time. It's bomb proof, powerful, simple and cheap. I can't stand trying to clean Dysons etc. Emptying the dust container while it blows back at you and covers everything nearby in dust, banging filters, washing filters, putting it back together. Henry has a bag, they're a quid each, lasts a month at least, swap it over without any contact with the contents. There's a filter thing...ours is still clean after 4 years but again very cheap and easy to replace.
