Hi, does anyone make their own soap? I'd reAlly like to try it and am looking for advice on how to start. Lots of YT videos but not really on where to get the ingredients in UK unless I'm clicking on the wrong ones. TIA

Search for soap recipe ingredients uk.

I've done a few batches of cold process soap. Loved experimenting with colours and mica powders. I suggest you do plenty of research and watch many youtube videos before having a go. When you're mixing everything together you need to work quickly before the trace sets. Have all your equipment clean and ready on hand. Most certainly wear protection - gloves, mask and eye shields whilst using the lye. You can't just wing it with the recipe either really because different amounts of different oils will significantly change the soap. Use a soap calculator, I use this one as its free www.soapcalc.net/calc/SoapCalcWP.asp

I've made a lot of soap. You can ask Boots to order in the ingredients for you (in normal times) and there's a great book by Melinda Coss called The Handmade Soap Book that I would strongly recommend.

BTW you really, really need PPE in the form of face mask, eye protection and gloves or you could really do yourself damage. Plus you need to let it cure for a month before use.

Thank you! I love a particular soap in Lush but it's so expensive I'd really like to try and do it myself.

Boffin- would you ever have made olive oil soap at all? Just wondering whether that is possible in UK, and without an olive grove to hand...
