Dishwasher blocked arms

Super dull question - grains of rice/ etc occasionally get stuck in the arms of the dishwasher resulting in poor conditions and food stuck on plates etc. What's the best way of getting these grains out? Thx x

on our Bosch dishwasher the arm component simply pops off and I can run it under the hot tap and poke around with a cocktail stick if necessary. supermarkets sell little bottles of dishwasher cleaner - you peel off the seal and pop the whole thing in the dishwasher upside down and run it on empty. the chemical is powerful enough to dissolve most residues.
