Ok - I’m gonna start this thread and keep adding to it as I go on...

On 30th April, we discovered a major infestation of bed bugs in DS’s room - aaaarrrggghhh!

This thread describes what we did - and are doing - to rid the house of them and hopefully help others dealing with this horrible pest infestation...

Could you link to the website of Bed Bugs UK if possible @LangClegsInSpace - there are so many similarly named! Out of interest did they accept they couldn’t get rid of the rest of them, or what happened?

Thanks!

www.bed-bugs.co.uk/

They come out and do an assessment and give you a list of preparations to do, then come back a couple of days later to do the first treatment. They leave instructions for a deep clean at the end of 14 days and then if you still have them you have the option of them coming back half price for a number of times. Can't remember how many. By this time, like the OP, I was just finding the odd one or two. And as they were basically using steam cleaning and diatomaceous earth I thought I might as well carry on doing that myself instead of keeping on calling them back.

They were honest, they said it can take a few treatments to get rid of them. I didn't ever say to them 'you couldn't get rid of the bugs', I just took over the treatment myself.

It sounds like they didn't do much but in fact they did - what you get is a crash course in bed bug behaviour and life cycle. I don't think I could have confidently taken over the treatment without everything I learnt from them. They were also excellent at emotional support. DD suffers from anxiety at the best of times and wasn't coping at all well. The woman who came out gave DD her number and said she could text any time if she was worried about the bugs and she would call her back.

So I would still recommend them over the companies that make you bag up your entire belongings and spray ineffective pesticides everywhere. We only had to bag up stuff immediately around the beds and we came out armed with the knowledge to finish the job ourselves. The fact just is that bugs are very hard to get rid of.

The one thing I would say is that their treatments would be more effective they switched to using cimexa over diatomaceous earth. That was the real game changer.
