How to clean Oak floors?

Hi, We had oak flooring installed throughout the house (great when you have a messy toddler). I vacumn and mop it every week but it looks and still is dirty. Does anyone know of a fab mop or particular cleaning device that would get the dirt/grime up and leave it sparkling?

You will need to speak to whoever installed it to find out what 'type' of seal there is on it, and what they recommend - some need waxing/polishing, some need other treatments. Our oak floors need oiling every 18 months.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes have done and it still not good. I think I may need a better mop or such like.

i use Pledge soapy cleaner on my oak floors. You add it to water and then mop the floor,.

I use a cleaner similiar to the pledge one, then just plain warm water, and am amazed at how much more dirt comes up after, with just the water, so the pledge clearly isn't that good.

Will be watching this thread with interest, hope someone else has found something that works

I don t think you shoudl be mopping it...unless the mop is just slightly damp. you're not wetting it are you?

we have oak floors too and three kids and live in the country and ours still look fine after 5 years. BTW i am a TERRIBLE housewife so its not due to lots of care. are you sure its properly sealed?
