how can I make me windows opaque asap?

Complicated situation but to cut a long story short I need a short term fast solution to make a glass door opaque so that the room can be private. It's a room off another room with glass doors in between. I've ordered some frosted window film but it's not going to arrive for a few days and I need it sorted by tomorrow. Theres no curtain rail.
i was thinking if the sort of things shops do when they are being refurbished - a sort of soap-sud effect (like when you first smear windowpane over a window before cleaning it, but more opaque). Dh thinks we could achieve this with a bit of white emulsion diluted with water and then wiped over. Not sure if this would work -the key thing is that it needs to go back to normal in a few weeks.

Any ideas?

Windolene cream

Windowlene

ClaraEccles · 17/05/2020 16:09

(Water based) Emulsion will come off glass with a bit of elbow grease and a couple of coats would render the glass opaque. ... if you have it handy I’d be doing that.

Justmuddlingalong · 17/05/2020 16:09

A thick layer of the pink widowlene liquid?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/05/2020 16:12

thanks. We have windowlene so I will try that! I wasn't sure if it would be thick enough.

In my experience, just try can clean them a few times.

On the basis whenever I do it, they look worse than before, 3 or 4 times, and they'll be black.

DGRossetti · 17/05/2020 16:13

and clean them ...

I’d say windowlene too, but if you can’t get out to buy it try Newspaper, wrapping paper or white paper sellotaped on or blutacked on.

CarpeVitam · 17/05/2020 16:18

Another vote for Windowlene

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 17/05/2020 16:19

I'd pin a sheet or paper over the windows while waiting for the film to arrive.

Rhubardandcustard · 17/05/2020 16:20

Have you a thin long sheet. Shut door trap sheet at top door frame. Will fall off when you open door but quick and easy and no mess.

GeorgeTheFirst · 17/05/2020 16:25

Tinfoil will stick on with water. Wrapping paper?

OhioOhioOhio · 17/05/2020 16:28

Yeah pretty wrapping paper.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/05/2020 16:32

thanks for all.the suggestions. It's to create some privacy for a room in which a private carer for an elderly relative is going to stay. The carer is arriving tomorrow hence needing to sort it.

No spare sheets or paint here as far as I can tell but there is windowlene. I. could probably borrow some emulsion paint from the neighbours if necessary

Grease proof paper taped over?

melj1213 · 18/05/2020 01:31

If you just need a temporary solution, it doesnt have to be pretty - tinfoil or newspaper or wrapping paper (if there is any pretty patterned paper lying around) taped over the glass will do. As someone who has had to bed down in makeshift bedrooms before, I didn't care how the glass was covered, as long as it gave me privacy

SlothsRock · 18/05/2020 02:06

Newspaper or binbags

GeriGeranium · 18/05/2020 07:08

I’d use whatever paper you have bluetacked or sellotaped in place.

Otherwise if you get a bar of soap a bit wet and rub it over the glass it should leave a thick white smear, that may work.

fuuuuuuck · 18/05/2020 07:12

Tinfoil

HasaDigaEebowai · 18/05/2020 07:14

www.littlethings.com/lace-window-treatment

As in the link above, cornstarch, water and a bit of lace is good for a more permanent solution

Icedlatte · 18/05/2020 07:20

Was also going to say wet tinfoil, much quicker, easier and less messy than some suggestions (if you already have foil in the house)

Chasingsquirrels · 18/05/2020 08:12

In that situation I'd want booked not opaque, so newspaper taped over.
