Handheld dyson not working - is it just the battery?

We have a cordless dyson with the detachable hand held bit. It has stopped working properly and only works for a few seconds even when fully charged. I’m guessing it needs a new battery but DH seems to think it’s not clear how you get the battery off to replace it.

Does anyone know please? Can new batteries be ordered online and are they straightforward to fit? Thanks

There might be blockage. If there’s a blockage, the system quickly overheats and shuts down.

Dismantle every connection and remove debris and blockages, then put it together again. That’s worked for us a few times.

You can get an Amazon from battery for around £40-£45, depending on model.

We're on about our third battery, and when OH changes it takes him about 10 mins so I don't think it's a particularly onerous job.

Try rinsing or changing the filter first. You can google how to do this. You should really do this every month or so.

Ok will try these things first thanks

I have the exact same issue. It's like the boost button is permanently de-pressed. I've washed all filters, guess it must be the battery then. Pity as it wasn't old when it first started malfunctioning.

Please do contact dyson as they can be very helpful sorting issues with their stuff..

Its the filter. This has happened to us a few times and it fixed it every time.

Youtube vids aplenty on doing it thoroughly depending on model.

When it's the battery the lights flash six times. If it's going on and off it needs a good clean and filter wash. I bought a battery from amazon. Saved around £30, it was still £30/40. The battery unscrews. It's easy and I looked at YouTube how to change just to be sure.

Mine is the Dyson 10. It stops seconds after starting on a full charge. You have to jam it back in the docking station briefly again then it works fine. Weird.

I had the same problem. Bought a new battery from amazon about 2 weeks ago for about £30. DH followed a YouTube video to change it and it works perfectly now!

This happened to my old V6 one and it had to be taken apart and thoroughly cleaned then it was ok after that, I think it must have been dirt in its innards. I think the batteries are meant to last 3-5years though, so maybe that if it is that age
