Vax carpet cleaner

I recently bought a vax carpet cleaner and I love it! How often do you reckon is necessary/reasonable to wash carpets? I only have upstairs carpet and hoover them once a week. Is once a month carpet washing overkill?

I wash once a month downstairs. I think I've only done upstairs once in two years 🤣

I bought one second hand and don't know which carpet shampoo/liquid cleaner to use. Kindly help

Any carpet tips?

SlimBig · 12/05/2020 12:50

@scamander I got the vax platinum solution in the box with the machine, but have ordered 1.5litres of normal vax solution for £9.99. Pretty sure you can use a generic carpet solution in there too, which is even cheaper.

@pinkmummy1 do you find that doing it once a month gradually makes the carpet nicer/newer feeling or does that frequency just keep on top of it?

@SlimBig thanks appreciate it.

I got one last week and I fear I am coming obsessed! It's just such a satisfying job! Grin

I have the basic vax one upstairs carpets I shampoo about twice a year downstairs once a moth and I use a capful of aldi lavender washing laundry liquid in mine as it cleans the carpets very well and smells nicer than vax liquid its a very satisfying job seeing all the muck come out of them but how often depends on your family wether you have small children, pets how pale your carpets are

Ah yes, cream and light brown carpets, 2 kids under 7, a dog who’s not allowed upstairs but a cat who gets everywhere!

I have the basic vax cleaner and use the vax cleaning solution. Plus a cap full of vanish carpet cleaner to help with small stains. It brings up all the black cat hair from my cream carpets and makes the room smell clean. I do it in the evenings jest before putting the kids to sleep. Then hover again in the morning when its dry. The carpet looks like new and is really soft. I have the horrible cheap cream carpet that they put in all new build houses 🤣

I normally do a carpets couple of times a year, but we mainly have hard floor downstairs. Since lockdown have done all the carpets, stairs, rugs and today upholstery! Have vax concentrated atm but it is very low fragrance.

No, once a month carpet washing does not overkill. I have also bought portable carpet cleaner recently and I do carpet washing two to three times a month. I do not think it is an issue.

Is your Vax an upright?

I've got an old orange cylinder Vax carpet cleaner, which I've had for about 20 years and gets used infrequently.
I paid ds2 to do the downstairs carpets last year but it's quite a big job.
I was looking at the new upright cleaner and it looks a lot easier, but also seems overkill to get a new one when mine works fine.
