Sorting washing

Know this subject has been done to death but since being furloughed have a bit more time to consider the thorny issue of washing clothes. Plus doing much more washing Grin

How do you sort items for washing and do you throw different iteMs in together or separate? What temperature?

I hate only putting on half loads (plus don't have that function) so like to put things in together to fill machine up.

So here goes (bracing myself for a flaming!)

Any combination of kitchen cloths/Bedding/towels/pants/socks at 60
Colours (non-pants/socks) at 30 (on coloured wash)
Darks (non- underwear) at 40 - often contains DH's stinky T-shirt's
Sweaters at 30

What does everyone else do to ensure the bloody machine isn't on all day, every day?!

5 of us here. I was everything at 40. Generally, I separate the lights out and do them separate to coloured and dark stuff, but towels and bedding get thrown in with other washing that’s a similar colour. I don’t have time to be washing pants and socks separately, it all gets thrown in together. And sometimes, white school shirts get thrown in with the rest of the uniform on a Friday just to get them washed ready for the next week!

Towels- at 40 every week in one load, once a month at 60.
Whites/lights -40
Darks- 40
Bedding once a week at 40
Happily mix bedding & clothes if necessary.
Tea towels in with whatever wash is going on that day.

Dried outside in sunshine which I think helps clean/kill off bugs etc.
Usually do about 1 wash a day. (3 kids)

@Chicchicchicchiclana They are, by whatever mechanism. Using Surcare liquid. Sports bras, running/cycling tops and shorts, socks etc. all fine.

I just throw everything in together at 40. Am I terrible? I just can’t be arsed sorting it!

VitreousHumour · 09/05/2020 19:02

@Ohdeariedear do your whites stay white or does everything go light grey? I am praying for the former..

Ohdeariedear · 09/05/2020 19:33

Don’t have many whites @Vitreoushumour but those I do have are still white!

Everything at 40C, 1hr cycle, except white school shirts that get a 60C long cycle.
Darks, lights and whites.
With the absence of school and work, I dont have any whites, or any ironing. Tis bliss. My washing amounts have dropped significantly, with no football kit for kids, limited gym kit for DH, and the kids preference to spend the whole day in PJs!
