Steam Generator Iron

My 4 year old Tefal Pro Express Iron I bought for £179.00 has conked out.

I was ironing last week and smelt burning. I looked around and tho got that's strange - looked at the Iron which I had rested on resting bit of my ironing board & the sole plate had started to melt.

I immediately switched it off at the mains and took out the plug. I was quite scared.

I have emailed Tefal Customer Services but I am not expecting them to do anything in this climate and even when thugs are normal they do not have good track record. I know it is out of warranty.
Surely four years is not a long time for this to happen? I have not dropped the Iron. I think it's an internal safety fault in the Iron.

Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them? What does everyone think? Angry

Mine don't last long. I put it down to hard water (even though I dilute tap water with de-ionised) and a lot of use.

I'm sure a decent steam iron would last longer, but I can't go back now.
