Social distancing around the Maypole: Fledglings fly into Flylady thread May 2020.

Welcome to the May Flylady thread Fledglings! We are finally coming to the end of Spring and, erm, what a Spring it has been. Keep safe everyone and a special shoutout to Fledglings who are in the frontline of the response to Covid 19.
Lane has been superlative with the keep calm corner and has had a truly magnificent engagement with fledglings all through April – well done Lane!!! I have totally abandoned my routines (and my clean eating) and have been flying perilously close to the ground but am ready for take off again. But we operate a no fledgling left behind policy and indeed Flylady herself stresses that you are never behind in the system – no need to deep clean the house first, just jump right in.
All are welcome here from longtimers to newbie and those lurking – we all follow this zone-based Flylady cleaning system:
There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
MAY
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – Sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sun 31)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look here but be aware that lots of emails arrive if you sign up.

Flylady has an introductory scheme called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc here.

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of May is moving – whether that’s your daily get out of the house during lockdown or in house movement. – moving is not my strongest point apart from pottering around the house…
We also have a naughty corner as a restful break out space and a Keep Calm Corner (KCC). I suspect I’ll be better at the naughty corner rather than the latter but I’ll do my best! Not sure I can muster the memes but I’ll do my best to keep spirits up.
So welcome to the new thread (I hope I haven’t left anyone out): Lane, SC, zoo, Bower, KTCluck, Willow/Megiddo, foxes, That, averytiredMom, fluffliest, ED, Strawberry, Chic, Hazel, Happiness, Cineraria, We3, stressy, and give.

And breathe!

Hello icy nice to see you again. Spent the evening trying to fix my phone and having a virtual drink with a friend. Phone is on its way out so will have to replace it.

Going for a lovely long walk tomorrow. Not been out for days. Just washed kitchen floor and getting ready for bed. Zone 3 tomorrow. Night fledglings.

ta da
💚20min EB
💚scrubbed table
💚tidied a lot of our room, which involved:
💕chucked/recycled lots
💕found a load of stuff that needs washing (bit scared about tackling mount washmore now!)
💕moving clothes to donate into cupboard
💕rehomed various little bits and pieces - game cards, toys, pens etc
💕tested pens and separated mine
💕dug out some stuff for activities for Cagletini
💕made replacement number cards (I’d made them for times tables practice when the others were little but some had got too scuffed so I’m just going to use one of each 1-10 for simple games with Cagletini)
💕vacuumed various parts of our room as they became available
💕cleaned skirting in the places we cleared
💕packed up most of remaining random crap into smaller bags/tubs to go in the cupboard - much less than before
💕wiped down thin Kallax, moved onto its side on the other side of the room and replaced baskets
💕arranged printer/paper on top of Kallax and cleaned printer and paper tub

Not bad on four hours sleep Hmm tired now.

Hello icy welcome back! I hope everything goes OK for you shielding.

lane that's quite a list! Well done for everything you've accomplished.

I ended up doing 2 LOLs, almost got an empty basket (3 or 4 things of whites, so not a full load) I spent all afternoon out in the shed. ILs came over to being their chest freezer that they are giving us since we don't have much freezer space. I cleared everything out, swept the floor in there (cement floor we put in there a few years ago), got rid of cobwebs. DH and FIL wired in a socket while I was sorting stuff out to go back in. Once they got done I put almost everything back in (not much had to go) and with organising it back in there's so much more room. DH thought there was more to go in so stepped out to being in back in and was shocked to see that there was nothing more to go in. I'm glad we got that done.

We did have FIL & MIL stay for dinner, we ate outside as it was a lovely evening. I go to ILs house for lunch every day I work and they are starting to lift restrictions. We still tried to distance ourselves as much as possible, and no hugging like we would normally do 😔

Tomorrow is mother's day here, I have a grocery pickup planned, and steak and shrimp for dinner, but nothing else that I know of. It would be nice to have some Netflix time to myself, but that won't happen. Either DS or DH are usually playing APEX on the Xbox.

HungryHazelEyes · 10/05/2020 05:22

Oh I forgot the rest of my ta das!

💜 thoroughly dusted top shelf of desk (hadn't done that last week) as well as everything on it.

💚 changed what was on 2 shelves on the desk (including the top) it looked so good when I took everything off it, I didn't want to put it all back!

💜 replaced a hanging picture (that I no longer want) with one that was on the top shelf. Where I put it does need a bigger picture though, so need to buy a bigger frame for another picture I have.

💚 helped DD put a sticky chalk board up on her wall, which promptly fell off as soon as she used it. It was cheap so should have expected that to happen. Now she's planning to just paint part of one wall with chalkboard paint.

💜 S&S bathroom.
💚 dusted the rest of the living room.

💜 DW rotated and countertops wiped down.

💚 cleaned under the top cabinets in the kitchen, the candle I had burning in the yesterday made a smokey mess.

I'm ready for a shower and bed now though. I really need to do yoga as well. I actually got on YouTube yesterday and did one of Adriennes yoga workouts and really enjoyed it. I just need to make the time to do it. Goodnight all.

icy welcome back
Lane fab list
Hazel hope you get spoiled!

I am FURIOUS
the amount of kids gallivanting up and down street in groups today was a joke
And next doorhas clearly decided it's ok for granddaughter who lives with her to have mate round to play in gardenD's could hear them as his window was open and they were saying it's not like we can stay apart for ever...
Cue massive panic from him he may get I'll,they will get I'll,and things go get much worse...I reassured him we can't catch it from that distance, but agreed it was selfish stupid behaviour..

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 10/05/2020 07:55

zoo our neighbours have been behaving similarly, selfish shits. I think people think its all better now, never mind the hundreds of people a day still dying from this virus! I am glad it is sunday and i am looking forward to the announcement tonight particularly in relation to schools. Although i am starting to think i would just rather they stayed closed until the levels are much lower.

I have been up nearly 2 hours and not done a great deal. Fed the smallest two, changed the baby, watched some covid19 stuff on tv.....

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/05/2020 08:38

I've I not expecting schools to reopen, esp not secondary yet.i can see to some degree why people might want primary back so parents can go to work, but lots workplaces are now working towards home accessyou can t socially distance in a school.spain has had people on beaches not isolating nor wear masks in close proximity exercising.many are expecting wave two to hit in 10-14 days...I'm in camp of watch and wait tbh.im in no hurry to try and resume anything!

Tada
Lazy start
Hour recipe sorting
Make up jusrol pain au chocolate
Bake
Make fruit platter-sliced plums, grapes and blueberries
Breakfast

Watched gangsta granny on watch with D's and lil zoo

Now I need do something productive an hour or so
I shall then do some exercise and gave hot shower

Sunday is self-care with girls,so hoping to do main and pedicure, facial and deep hair conditioning

Grey day here.windy too go make a stew for lunch.am go attempt a do one using tvp soy chunks for dd2 once I've googled how to

Lisette1940 · 10/05/2020 08:40

Happy Mothers' Day Hazel - hope you have a great day where you are!

that you got plenty done - you are still ahead of people yet to get up!

I think regarding lockdown there are plenty of people who aren't sticking with the programme or reframing the instructions to suit their own situation. It is infuriating because everyone else is making sacrifices but somehow the non compliers are a special case!

Our schools are remaining closed up here in Scotland (some open for key workers). They'd be due back around 21 August (normally close for summer from early July). Mind you we had 12 week summer holidays growing up in Ireland and those summers just went on forever...

Baby step 10 is about using your timer to get 15 minutes of work done here

Morning

I achieved my lie in this morning. It’s a wet and windy miserable day here so I’m giving myself permission for a lazy day.

Ta da:
✅ composed text to DH to ask him to bring me tea and toast
✅ scoffed said yes and toast

To do:
🦅 drag self out of pit and make it
🦅 get dressed
🦅 LOL
🦅 iron uniform and reduce the rest of the pile a bit
🦅 assist DH in cooking Sunday lunch (beef)
🦅 some sort of exercise
🦅 prep food for Monday and tuesday shifts

If I get the urge one of the dining room cupboards appears to have had a game of random crap jenga set up in it so I may tackle that as it’s starting to irritate me. However I may also take root on the sofa. We’ll see.

Lane you did so much yesterday! You too Hazel.

Welcome back icy

Enjoy your pampering Zoo and zoolets.

My favourite urban nature walk is through St Stephen's Green in Dublin. It's a park in the city centre with a lovely pond. I have a photo of one of the lovely treelined pathways on my desk. Granted it was taken on a slightly gloomy day but I love the railings and the fact that there are no people in the picture - just a gently curving leafy path. I look at it when I feel homesick because it was taken just before I emigrated as a reminder of my walks there.

More locally here in Scotland we live near a wooded moorland area which is just lovely. Once there was a country home on the grounds dating from the early modern period but it fell into delapidation and was eventually removed. Some of the pathways date from this time.

We often see deer on this moor even though it's not an exceptionally large space and is bisected by a road.

Yesterday I broke my smart phone and my mop so I'm hoping for a better day today!

Coffee and pancakes in the naughty corner!

Morning, big cheery wave to everyone.

I agree about lockdown. My DH has a low immune system and asthma so I am terrified that he wouldnt make it if he got covid19. I had to stop watching the news and stop reading about covid19 for my own MH. Wish people would think of others more. We went to the park for our hour, with the kids very late in the evening around 8pm on thursday, and I was dismayed to find some people refused to social distance. Some people did social distance and i was very grateful they did.

Its been busy at home. I had my pink bunting out in the garden and we did a charity run in the garden with the fraggles on Thursday. A lovely VE day tiny tea party with the fraggles and my sister on zoom. Loved watching the programs on VE day, loved the music. I would love to have put victory rolls in my hair and dressed up as I love the 1940s looks. I love dresses from lindybop. But I was too exhusted aa was still in pjs. I would have worked with anything to do with machinery, fixing or operating it. A landgirl or possibly a spy.

I enjoy sewing. I can do a few basic things on a sewing machine. I learnt from my mum as she was a seamstress. I had to alter my dresses quite alot as I am so short it was hard to find dresses in my size (dumpy round the middle.) Hand me anything you need sewing. Smile it wont brilliant but I will have a good go.

Gosh I try to type and within seconds i hear...muuuumeeeeee, muuuummmeeeeee.

I will come back with the rest.

Lisette1940 · 10/05/2020 10:29

I love the 1940s too Dancing but my hair is much too short for victory rolls!

There is a SNOW storm outside. If you'd told me last year that I'd be in the middle of a global pandemic watching snow fall heavily outside in May....

@lisette snow! Smile

KTCluck · 10/05/2020 10:55

That’s so strange Lisette, and yet I got sunburnt yesterday! I am most definitely channeling the hula skirted minion, although I did nod in the direction of zone 3 by pouring a bit of bleach round the sink plug hole during this morning’s s & s as it was looking a bit manky Halo

Favourite nature walk is a village a couple of miles or so down the road, along the river and a loop round a medieval castle. My dad used to take us along there lots as children. From our current house we get to do it via the beach and harbour too so it’s both a coastal and country walk, I love it. I loved st Stephens green when I went to Dublin.

Morning dancing . The dresses on lindybop are gorgeous although I saw mention of them going into administration somewhere? I hope I’m wrong!

Lisette1940 · 10/05/2020 10:58

@dancing yes I know. Not that unusual in May in Northern Scotland. Rare enough though.

I'm reading a really good book about grief or heartache by Cathy Rentzenbrink called A manual for heartache. Really uplifting and thoughtful. She's a great writer too.

Hi everyone! I've changed three times already today because it was hot then cold and windy and then a little bit hot but not as hot as the first time it was hot 😂

I'm having a lazy Sunday as per the minions advice (had a lazy weekend really and I haven't actually felt guilty much which is refreshing!)

I've done a bit of tidying up half heartedly and now I'm going to hang the washing up. Later I plan to make chocolate muffins again with the egg this time just to see how nice they should have been Grin and I'm going to make a fruit crumble I think just because we've got no fresh fruit left but have got frozen stuff...counts as one of five a day even if covered in crumble and custard right?!

Crazy about the snow btw!

foxessocks · 10/05/2020 12:22

Got up and sat straight back down because dh is already hanging the washing up! I could get used to this!
