Social distancing around the Maypole: Fledglings fly into Flylady thread May 2020.

Lisette1940 · 30/04/2020 15:16

Welcome to the May Flylady thread Fledglings! We are finally coming to the end of Spring and, erm, what a Spring it has been. Keep safe everyone and a special shoutout to Fledglings who are in the frontline of the response to Covid 19.
Lane has been superlative with the keep calm corner and has had a truly magnificent engagement with fledglings all through April – well done Lane!!! I have totally abandoned my routines (and my clean eating) and have been flying perilously close to the ground but am ready for take off again. But we operate a no fledgling left behind policy and indeed Flylady herself stresses that you are never behind in the system – no need to deep clean the house first, just jump right in.
All are welcome here from longtimers to newbie and those lurking – we all follow this zone-based Flylady cleaning system:
There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
MAY
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – Sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sun 31)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look here but be aware that lots of emails arrive if you sign up.

Flylady has an introductory scheme called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc here.

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of May is moving – whether that’s your daily get out of the house during lockdown or in house movement. – moving is not my strongest point apart from pottering around the house…
We also have a naughty corner as a restful break out space and a Keep Calm Corner (KCC). I suspect I’ll be better at the naughty corner rather than the latter but I’ll do my best! Not sure I can muster the memes but I’ll do my best to keep spirits up.
So welcome to the new thread (I hope I haven’t left anyone out): Lane, SC, zoo, Bower, KTCluck, Willow/Megiddo, foxes, That, averytiredMom, fluffliest, ED, Strawberry, Chic, Hazel, Happiness, Cineraria, We3, stressy, and give.

And breathe!

Lane sorry she reacted that way. There will be changes but whose to say that there won’t be jobs that appeal to you and that you will get because of who you are. Perhaps she will re think her reply.

Feeling tired and lazy, no reason for either.

Foxes little ones say that all the time don’t worry about it. The teacher is likely to be flattered.
Fluffy typical man to not sort it so you can rest.

Lisette1940 · 06/05/2020 10:07

Oh Lane what a killjoy she is. You never know what's out there for you.

Bower I feel much the same today but it's antiprocrastination day in Flylady land and I do find that I stumble off to get things done under that daily focus.

It is also baby step no 6 here - clearing hotspots , see here for info on hotspots: here

OP posts:
Lisette1940 · 06/05/2020 10:08

Actually Bower maybe just take a break today - gardening takes up so much energy so perhaps you are just worn out?

Lisette1940 · 06/05/2020 10:17

KCC

Stages of procrastination if you like a road map! Also question of the day: When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?

I had an early phase of wanting to be a police woman when I was 6. I had a little navy trouser suit which I put on after school and I'd pretend I was arresting people.

I'm opening up the naughty corner - hammocks, real lemonade, shady sun umbrella. We can plan out how to anti-procrastinate Grin

Lane there is a thread today on further education about how to become a counsellor. Might be of interest.

LaneBoy · 06/05/2020 10:23

Oh thanks lisette I’ll check that out. My own psychologist is genuinely keen that I look into it as a career!

I’ve pretty much written off today already. Yesterday I managed to pull myself out of it a little but I don’t feel that is likely today!

Dancingtomusic · 06/05/2020 11:13

Cheery wave to everyone this morning.

Lane sending you a big hug and another for anyone else that could do with one.

Lisette1940 · 06/05/2020 11:28

I think you'd be very good at art therapy and you seem like a lovely person.

Lisette1940 · 06/05/2020 11:29

I'd gladly accept a virtual hug dancing although I feel much more robust today than yesterday.

Hi everyone. I seemed to have stalled after a good start:

Ta Da:
✅ up at 6:30, 10 mins abs workout before DD woke up (ow!)
✅ beds made
✅ s & s
✅ DW emptied, breakfast things in
✅ DH did supermarket shop, I put it away
✅ sorted laundry - no full load so I’m off the hook today Smile
✅ bit of tidying upstairs and down
✅ DD dressed, washed, teeth cleaned and hair done by 8:30am. Earliest in weeks Star. Also got myself ready, makeup on, eyebrows plucked and nails cut. Feel bette rafter a bit of self care

We’ve spent an hour or so in the garden and have made some red white and blue bunting for a VE Day garden party on Friday.

DD then wanted to come back in and watch some TV so I’m grabbing a cuppa and catching up.

To do:
🍒locate motivation again
🍒dusting and hoovering upstairs
🍒bathroom cleaned
🍒put together playhouse for DD which is being delivered today, a kind gift from MIL
🍒clean hob. The rest of the missions aren’t necessary as I did the cutlery drawer and under the sink recently and fridge is sorted
🍒a walk
🍒make lasagne
🍒ironing
🍒food prep for work tomorrow
🍒tidy and hoover downstairs before bed
🍒shine sink
🍒collapse in heap

Favourite smell. I’m another lavender and rose fan, but also love mint and also wild garlic. I wanted to be a nurse when I was tiny, then a doctor, but I’m neither (although I am a health professional!). I can eat anything on pizza (pineapple included) but goats cheese and red pepper is my favourite.

Glad you turned the day around yesterday Meg. Sorry about your lie in Fluff. Waves to everyone. Hope you all get to enjoy some sunshine.

LaneBoy · 06/05/2020 11:46

Thank you all 💕💐
Now hiding in bed avoiding everyone, DD1’s teacher phoned to check how she is and he was so nice and it made me cry (thankfully not until after I’d hung up) 😳

Aaaaaand our clothing rail (never bought a wardrobe when we moved! Previous house had a built in one) has just broken too. Marvellous 🙄

Can’t imagine not living cheese! Mum doesn’t have pizza often as she doesn’t like tomato, but some places do pizza bianco with a bechamel etc.

When I was a kid I wanted mostly to be a writer I think. I should probably be using lockdown to Write That Novel. (I do have ideas for a children’s series, and a sort of plan for a thriller but would I ever actually get round to doing it...?)

KTCluck · 06/05/2020 11:47

Lane sorry your mum wasn’t more supportive. You sound like you’re being really proactive. Good luck!

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/05/2020 12:25

Some actual work had to help with something even though my day off ...
Made lunch
2 X meal plans and 2 X food orders (very exciting!)

To do
Decluttering kitchen
Clean out fridge
Mop

Veggie cottage pie for dinner
Might make some cakes 🤔

Fluffiest · 06/05/2020 12:50

Hope you find that motivation kt but you've made a brilliant start to the day anyway.

lane hope you rest up and revive this afternoon

I did manage to fall asleep again then got up at 9 and everyone was much calmer. DH has been on the go since I got up fixing floorboards, mending the toilet and cutting the grass. Likewise DD, took herself upstairs for a play with her toys so I after a bumpy start I actually had a quiet hour to do some cleaning after breakfast.

Ta das:
❤ washed dishes
🧡 bin out for collection
💛 laundry put away
💚 vacuumed downstairs
💜 tidied magazines
💙 sat outside with DD reading magazines and colouring in

We are just having lunch now, then I'm going to take DD for a walk through the village whilst DH finishes the grass (we have a huge garden so this takes him awhile)

When I was little I wanted to be a famous actress, an archaeologist or a writer depending on the day.

LaneBoy · 06/05/2020 12:52

We don’t really have a bank in our town 😱 there’s a sort of mobile service which DH liaises with a lot through work (getting supermarkets to give them food etc, and lately it’s a bag for life drive as they’re so short of them and need them to deliver food to people!

I feel a bit better having had a decent lunch (jacket potato, tuna, salad) and a quick text with support worker. But will still likely hide again later. DH has to go into town though so I’ll be on toddler/home ed duty then

foxessocks · 06/05/2020 15:34

Ta das
Went for a nature walk with the kids (this was part of dd task for school, lovely incentive to get outside this afternoon!)
Did more school work when we got back, watched a maths video, did some of her English book and yet another mind map 🙄
Mopped downstairs toilet and the kitchen
Hung washing outside

Unfortunately can't mop the upstairs bathroom because all my cloths are now in the wash - what a shame 😂

Having a tea break now before carrying on but I'm running out of steam a bit...only got an hour before I need to start dinner.

Dd been invited to a whole year group zoom Shock bad mum alert - I haven't told her...I kind of want to know how it turns out before we join in because I can't see how anyone will hear each other or talk to each other!!!? She has done lots of smaller zooms with her close friends so I'm not against it at all and I know she is a sociable child but I'm just not sure I can deal with a whole year one. I'm mean aren't I?!

foxessocks · 06/05/2020 15:52

Ah well, I don't feel so bad now, dh got home and the kids are now happily weeding the front garden with him.

This also means I'm still sitting down...just enjoying the momentary quiet Grin

HungryHazelEyes · 06/05/2020 18:45

Ta Das so far today:

🌺 2 LOLs.

🌺 DH breakfast made.

🌺 DW emptied.

🌺 Grocery pickup done.

🌺 Arranged flowers I got on grocery pickup.

🌺 Put clean laundry away (other than ironing pile)

🌺 Wrote out a new chore list for DCs.
🌺 Paid medical bill I had filed.

I don't remember if I'd mentioned it yesterday, but last night I came home and saw the bread I made was all gone 🤨 DH said we still have blueberries so I can make more! 🤬 Oh well, at least I know he likes it too.

Here is a picture of my flower arrangement, they picked a good bunch.

Foxes when the boys had their cubs one they just muted them and then unmuted them one at a time so they could speak individually.

Well schoolwork went better yesterday and today. We had a hungry caterpillar picnic yesterday which went down a treat and today we made play dough which was also a hit.

Not much flying done just basic S&S, LOL 3 altogether I think, ironing, hoovering, feed everyone and dishes. Just made the DC sandwiches for dinner and me and DH are going to get a takeaway in peace 🤫

Completely forgot it was the VE bank holiday on Friday until my neighbour rang and asked if she could put a flag on our fence. They're having a bit of a socially distanced street party so may have a BBQ. Looking at the weather app on my phone I'm not convinced we are going to see much of this heatwave though

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/05/2020 20:35

When I was little I wanted to be a florist. I also wanted to work in a library sorting the books and date stamping them at the desk. The sound of the date stamp at our library made a very satisfactory thump noise every time the librarian used it.

Tada!
Work, homework, gardening.
Swept kitchen floor
S&S
Hotspotted a bit of kitchen counter.
Zumba class (Zoom)

Now flopped on the sofa

LaneBoy · 06/05/2020 20:46

I was a bit gutted that when I worked in the library we didn’t really do date stamping! I used them as a kid once when I did a day work shadowing in one though.

Lisette1940 · 06/05/2020 20:55

I used to work in an art college library as a student and we had a proper date stamp with ink. Best place I've ever worked as we had a lovely head librarian, God rest him.

Lovely flowers hazel.

Was working today so dh cooked dinner - we had fish and roast potatoes and berries for afters.

No school for the next two days so pressure is off there. I have Friday off work!
