Social distancing around the Maypole: Fledglings fly into Flylady thread May 2020.

Lisette1940 · 30/04/2020 15:16

Welcome to the May Flylady thread Fledglings! We are finally coming to the end of Spring and, erm, what a Spring it has been. Keep safe everyone and a special shoutout to Fledglings who are in the frontline of the response to Covid 19.
Lane has been superlative with the keep calm corner and has had a truly magnificent engagement with fledglings all through April – well done Lane!!! I have totally abandoned my routines (and my clean eating) and have been flying perilously close to the ground but am ready for take off again. But we operate a no fledgling left behind policy and indeed Flylady herself stresses that you are never behind in the system – no need to deep clean the house first, just jump right in.
All are welcome here from longtimers to newbie and those lurking – we all follow this zone-based Flylady cleaning system:
There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
MAY
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – Sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sun 31)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look here but be aware that lots of emails arrive if you sign up.

Flylady has an introductory scheme called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc here.

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of May is moving – whether that’s your daily get out of the house during lockdown or in house movement. – moving is not my strongest point apart from pottering around the house…
We also have a naughty corner as a restful break out space and a Keep Calm Corner (KCC). I suspect I’ll be better at the naughty corner rather than the latter but I’ll do my best! Not sure I can muster the memes but I’ll do my best to keep spirits up.
So welcome to the new thread (I hope I haven’t left anyone out): Lane, SC, zoo, Bower, KTCluck, Willow/Megiddo, foxes, That, averytiredMom, fluffliest, ED, Strawberry, Chic, Hazel, Happiness, Cineraria, We3, stressy, and give.

And breathe!

Hazel that looks yummy.

HungryHazelEyes · 05/05/2020 04:24

bower that would be a sight to see- your cat willingly putting her feet in water! Impressive list as well.

Thank you all for your compliments on my lemon blueberry bread, it's very delicious.

This afternoon I spend some time outside. DS mowed the grass while I pulled weeds. He's doing a very good job and gets better every time he mows.

I spent some time this evening reading a creepy thread, and I'm all creeped out now!

JigoloHarMegiddo · 05/05/2020 05:52

Morning all ☕. Crap sleep, and DS2 has occurred in the kitchen again, culminating in chicken bits in the compost bin and the light left on all night. The actual state of the kitchen is not up for discussion, but if you hear a small explosion at 8am I've made him get up to clean it.

Morning all Brew

Amazingly i managed not to kill anyone yesterday and everyone eventually did their school work. I am resistant to allowing half days / inset days as i think they would pick up on how to make it occur again ...

I keep getting sucked in to the return to school threads and it is not helping my stress levels

meg i would have made him get up as soon as i found his mess!

Up at 5 with baby ds again and have just put him for a nap. Enjoying some peace before someone else wakes up!

Welcome to new folk

Ta da
❤ checked emails
🧡 looked at up coming birthday childs birthday wish list
💙 ordered couple things argos / amazon

Off to catch up on the thread now

Smartcasual · 05/05/2020 06:18

Morning all!

So many of you are doing amazing things on the home ed front and deserve a huge cheer!

Can't keep up with this thread atm! But brilliant to see more newcomers with us! A warm welcome to Dancing and MrsHardy and anyone else I have missed!

Just dashing in to say "hi" ahead of the working day! Dh has been up and working since 6 am and is stacking up tasks for me to do ... .

On old-fashioned computer so can't leave you all an emoticon-laden breakfast on the sideboard but wafts bacon sandwich aromas in to the KCC for later ...

Ta very muchly for links and memes Lisette!

Have a good day everyone!

Fluffiest · 05/05/2020 07:00

Morning all,

I've been up early with DD this morning. I'm always impressed when some of you use the early start to get stuff done. I just sit under a blanket, with cartoons on the telly, eating toast until its normal get up time.

It's big shop day, so I'm just putting together the shopping list and meal plan. I'm adding jogging pants to the list as my one pair of comfy-but-not-pjs bottoms have developed a hole. So, new joggers will be my exciting treat today!

🥞🥐 for all the homeschooling parents

JigoloHarMegiddo · 05/05/2020 07:43

Fluff, I have spent the last 2 hours under a blanket, drinking coffee and finally finishing my book. Considering going on strike today and letting everyone else pitch in!

foxessocks · 05/05/2020 08:06

fluff I'm up before my kids today (they are still asleep!! Unheard of!) I'm not doing anything productive I'm in bed with coffee. I will have to move soon though as due to start work at 9.

Meg good for you, do it, go on strike! Or failing that enjoy your quiet time now Grin

KTCluck · 05/05/2020 08:26

Morning!

I achieved no flying yesterday except sink shining before bed. No exercise as DD woke up and wanted to read with me before work and I couldn’t say no. Thankfully DH kept the place in order while I was at work.

A much more successful morning this morning though
✅ s & s
✅ exercise
✅ made salad for lunch
✅ quick general tidy
✅ made it to work early so have had time to catch up with thread

Will definitely try that bread Hazel

Sympathy to That, Zoo, and We3*, and anyone else having homeschool dramas.

Shift officially started 25 mins ago so best be off. Have a good day everyone 🍒 👋

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/05/2020 08:27

I was up first today too, which is unusual as DS is a lark. I woke at 6 and went to feed the cats (they usually start pestering him at about 6.30). Once I'm up I tend to do a few jobs but I'm now sitting in the garden in pjs with a cuppa.

Tada!
Feed cats
Sourdough bread in oven
Re-boot DW
Put on laptop and check work emails (1)
Eat sourdough bread while chatting to friends on FB.

Bower its very kind of you to offer but I'm ok for seeds Flowers.

Bowerbird5 · 05/05/2020 08:41

Also still under the duvet. DH has had a large( by the sound of it ) load of logs delivered at 8am😳 he had to get up early 🤣 he usually surfaces about 10🤫
I need to get up now for the cats medicine. I will try and photograph her. She loves rain water and will walk all the way down the garden rather than drink tap water from her bowl. Sometimes I fill it with rain water. It does looking funny with her two little paws in the water while she laps the water from the trough. She was drying them by lying in the sun but yesterday I didn’t see her go down there. Guess how I found out?

Think I might paint some of the bathroom. Not sure if I have any colour I like though. I might just paint it white. New tiles are white with mosaic of blues, purple and silver grey. When they go on!
Lovely and sunny here so far.

LaneBoy · 05/05/2020 08:56

Morning all. Feel slightly more human today. Haven’t got the big caglets up yet 😳 been having too much fun with DH. Not in that way 😂 but doing word puzzles together on the iPad. It’s crazy how even little things like that (important to us - within weeks of first meeting we were doing cryptic crosswords together!) have been totally neglected over the last few years. Definitely one of the main advantages of lockdown, it’s like we are learning how to actually hang out together again!

I am still craving carbs like mad though! Must get on the exercise bike too.

Bowerbird5 · 05/05/2020 09:01

X😀post ED
That’s ok. It had ten seed packets on the front and I immediately thought of you and your allotment. I went in to buy two large pots of sweet peas and saw the magazine so I had to have it. DH had been in for all the shopping and wouldn’t go back in because he wouldn’t know what plants I wanted.🤔 They have plants at the door all year and I knew you can just go to the front desk for a few things. He said later that there was only about four people in the whole supermarket. It is a bit more expensive than others and we went last Monday so it was very quite. The tomato plants that I got delivered from local garden site look good and healthy will pot them on today or tomorrow. I have 18 so need to get them to the other people. BF is easy I will walk up her hill and leave near back door. Older friend will wait until I need to go to town. I need prescription medication that they forgot? He is so chuffed I got some for him. He is supposed to be shielding but I imagine he goes for his walk every day. He would go mad without a walk.
Right better get dressed.

foxessocks · 05/05/2020 09:04

To do
Daily routine
Meal plan and attempt to get a click and collect for next week
Dusting
Exercise
15 minutes decluttering kitchen
Cutlery drawer

Plus working this morning / work with dd

Didn't quite do all my list yesterday but Mondays are tricky, did more than the previous Monday so happy with that!

Lane glad you're feeling a bit better today, start afresh Smile

Bowerbird5 · 05/05/2020 09:05

Waves to Lane we like crosswords too. There was a super large one in the local paper 😀 not cryptic though😟 but Better than nothing. A sudoku on the back too.
Right I am procrastinating now so see you all later.🍒🍒🍒🍒👋👋👋

Bowerbird5 · 05/05/2020 09:06

🍒👋 to 🦊

LaneBoy · 05/05/2020 10:20

Fluff totally agree about admiring those who get up early and crack on! I’ve usually been waking up really early but then just vegetate and faff about on my phone/iPad and feel much worse for it. For example I really should have got on the exercise bike three hours ago and then I could have been devoting more time to home ed now! Two minutes left.

I have someone phoning me for a chat at 11 so hopefully I will get a bit done before that. DH is hopefully taking the Caglets out.

Lisette1940 · 05/05/2020 11:10

Morning all. On a break from homeschooling and grabbed the computer. Can't link from phone.

Baby step no 5 is to reframe negative thoughts and turn them into positive thoughts. Our Daily focus for today is Plan and play so that would involve meal planning, prescription filling, horizon scanning etc and linking into the baby step no 5 we should also set about doing fun things so a long bath, planning ahead to do something nice etc

Question of the day: what is your favourite flower scent or essential oil scent? I love the smell of lilac and a the moment lavender essential oil is really calming - I used to find it twee!

For some reason this Gary Larson cartoon really made me laugh.

ED - ohh that's a tough pizza question! Not pineapple for sure. I love olives and if I could have a second it would be goats' cheese

Lisette1940 · 05/05/2020 11:28

fluffiest I also hibernate under the covers until the usual time to surface - in energy conserving mode Grin I see you've got started on plan and play that - well done especially with the baby being up at 5am again! Sorry to hear about the crap sleep megiddo and I hope the kitchen has sorted itself. I am about to refuel now myself and the talk of bacon has set me off.

Favourite pizza
Salami, anchovies and black olives.
Ham and pineapple was my favourite asa teenager.

Vegans put hummus on top instead of cheese try it if you don’t have cheese it is delicious. I do like veggie pizzas too. DD used to live in Bristol and there was an amazing cafe there that made yummy pizzas at one stage she lived almost across the road. We used to take them all for a treat as it was also very reasonable and you couldn’t leave some at home.

Favourite flower scent
Frangipani
Lots of others too roses, lavender, honeysuckle, lemon verbena/ geranium, lily of the valley I could go on.

Ta Da
Cat sorted, two lots of our chicken nothing wrong with her appetite.
Cleaned bathroom.
Made bed
Hung sheet out
Sorted some washing to go in.
Feeling a bit crappy I haven’t been drinking enough ...water! Feel sluggish.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/05/2020 12:07

ed I'm with lane I love pineapple on pizza, pref with red onions and peppers

Lisette mint calms me,as does lavender

Bowerbird5 · 05/05/2020 12:53

I used to be like you Zoo up early cracked on but now take it more sedately not sure if it is age or meds probably a bit of both.

Next time you are in supermarket take a look at gardening mags as the one I bought ( can’t remember the name or where I put it) said more seeds on next issue. I have sweet corn that I don’t want and I think maybe was some more. In greenhouse I will look when I go down stairs. I had a lie down just feel yuk bit of stomach ache😖 going to sort washing and do it. Planning. Will plan lunch. Then sort freezer and plan meals and shopping list. I was optimistic that it would last longer. Some things not available like big Hellman’s mayo DH got small squeezing one so not enough to make potato salad. Might bake something later but sunny again so will go out I think. Maybe a good walk would sought me out.
