Bed linen

I haven't bought bed linen in 20-plus years. I have 2 sets which have been on rotation in all that time (well I have three but I can never be bothered with the third set).

They are paper thin. The pillowcases are tearing and not repairable. My sheets have big holes in them. Just discovered today.

What's the best thing to replace them with in terms of a balance of costs and luxury and easy care?

I don't have a tumble dryer. I won't ever iron them. I get hot very, very easily.

The outgoing sets are from John Lewis and have done their bit.

Time for new. I'm going to be shocked at how much it costs aren't I?

The sets that are on their way out were wedding presents (16 years this year) and I hadn't bought any for at least four years before that...

400 thread count cotton would probably suit you best, and is surprisingly inexpensive at eg Matalan.
