Could you recommend me a good washing machine?

Exactly that! Our very old Miele has packed up. I don't know where to start with researching a decent replacement. Well, I'm starting here! I'm hoping for some washing machine love stories. Thank you in advance

Samsung EcoBubble. Super quiet.

BlackCatsRule88 · 24/04/2020 13:49

Make sure you get one with a countdown timer - so useful!

Freeasabirdy · 24/04/2020 13:52

I bought a new Miele three years ago and was really disappointed in it, having always had them before. Customer service was poor, I got fed up with arguing with them about getting it fixed so I gave it to the scrap man still under warranty.

So I wouldn’t recommend them for a new one.

I've got a Bosch one and have been happy with it.

We live in a very hard water area so limescale is a problem and kills appliances including washing machines. However the local repair guy I use says that Bosch ones are financially viable to repair as they keep going. Other cheaper machines are often "written off" as the cost of repair for the amount of time they'll last make it not worth the cost of repairs.

The only negative is it has an annoying beep when it finishes the cycle. On some models you can apparently disable it but not on mine.

pennysays · 24/04/2020 14:07

Did an absurd amount of research and ended up with Samsung eco bubble. Have been happy with it still after three years. It even coped with cloth nappies!

Meercat2 · 24/04/2020 14:16

I echo the ecobubble. I also did so much looking around. I love mine

mommybear1 · 24/04/2020 14:49

I'm on my second Bosch first one lasted 15 years I'm onto year 6 with this one and it's been great. I like a speed wash option and a high spin for drying off and Bosch models have these.

JanewaysBun · 24/04/2020 14:51

My Bosch is at least 7 years old and although has been mended still going strong.

But yes the BEEPS soo annoying

Oly4 · 24/04/2020 14:52

I’ve had my Bosh eco washer for four years. It does one load a day, sometimes two and is still going strong

Octoblock · 24/04/2020 18:44

Oh thank God, I thought nobody was going to reply and now I have good recommendations to check out. Thank you! The eco bubble is my first port of call

Really useful @freeasabirdy as my instinct was to go back to them

Freeasabirdy · 24/04/2020 19:45

I have had my previous one for ten years and the one before for eight.
It might just have been a one off but the customer service centre made me want to tear my hair out.

homeschoolchaos · 24/04/2020 19:56

Oh gosh I hate my Samsung. It has some good points but compared to the previous Bosch we had it’s useless. The main issue is that the Bosch does this variable speed thing to try and balance the load while spinning. The Samsung doesn’t have this feature so bashes itself around. It’s only 2 years old but I can’t wait for it to die so I can have another Bosch!

Freeasabirdy · 24/04/2020 20:01

I got a Bosch after chucking my Miele, so far so good.

peacelilypeace · 24/04/2020 20:55

homeschoolchaos have you tried recalibrating the drum? Mine sometimes goes a bit clunky when I've washed lots of towels or heavy things, it always runs better after it's recalibrated. It's really easy to do you just have to press a couple of buttons.

Alfiemoon1 · 25/04/2020 13:31

I like my Samsung eco bubble

picklemewalnuts · 25/04/2020 13:35

Drat! I just bought one, delivering tomorrow. It's not the one recommended on here...

Margo34 · 25/04/2020 14:30

Love my LG washer/dryer, but DH thinks it sounds like it might fall through the floor on a spin cycle (it lives upstairs in utility cupboard) but I disagree!

homeschoolchaos · 25/04/2020 18:39

@peacelilypeace - no, I didn’t even know this was an option! Worth doing for sure because we’ve moved house and it’s moved around this house a lot which hasn’t helped it. But it’s been like this since new anyway. Do you know how to do it?

homeschoolchaos · 25/04/2020 18:44

Actually I’ve found it!

OlivejuiceU2 · 26/04/2020 09:17

Another vote for the Samsung Ecobubble. Love this machine.

homeschoolchaos · 26/04/2020 15:04

And having recalibrated mine it no longer throws itself round the utility...

picklemewalnuts · 26/04/2020 15:26

My new hoover washing machine has arrived and done a couple of washes.
Love the countdown timer, and man it's soooo quiet! That's what ten years does for you, I suppose.

picklemewalnuts · 26/04/2020 20:27

OP, bear in mind installation is a drag at the moment- they don't come in and help as they usually would.

We learned a few things from the mistakes we made!

MoltoAgitato · 26/04/2020 20:34

We have had two Bosch machines in succession - the first one lasted 5 years (with young kids and cloth nappies) and I would have expected it to last longer. We’ve replaced it with another Bosch because we have a Bosch mount that mounts the tumble dryer on top of the machine, so the replacement had to be a Bosch. It’s okay.

To be honest, I’d spend £200 quid on a Beko and if it lasted 3 years it would be good. I can’t see a £600 machine lasting 9 years, so you might as well buy a cheap machine and replace every few years, getting the advantages of the improvements in the meantime.
