We've had ours for longer than I care to remember. Get it cleaned professionally once a year or so but I think it's lost its oomph.

I can't remember. A few years. It gets washed once a year before being put away and is used for about 6 months. It has seen better days but seems to do the job.

Actually, thinking about it, it's about 5 yrs old.

As soon as it gets icky.

I've got a duvet still on the go from my student days! It's got no stains and no smell and hasn't gone clumpy. I use chunky great duvet covers which probably helps.

I would say if it feels like it isn't doing the job.
But I'm talking years.

mine are top of the bed duvets in covers from new machine washed every three months and when the outer starts looking tatty usually about two years in they become mattress toppers till the next one goes tatty and the bottom one is machine washed every month

My duvets are at least 16 years old and in great condition! It's in two parts; a 9 tog and a 4.5 tog. Each part gets washed twice a year and aired in sunlight frequently.
