Best rug for family room

I want to get new rug for our family room. It goes out into garden so rug would need to be easy to clean mud etc off plus of course spilt juice/ milk/ wee etc.

It also needs to be warm and snuggly as kids shun the spartan polypropelene one that is there at the moment and spend all their time playing on the nice warm one in our bedroom!

What is your experience of what's best - wool? acrylic? some kind of more fluffy polypropelene. Would like to be enviro friendly if possible too & avoid rugs made by small children in 3rd world!

I need a new one too. Mine was lovely it is a wool rug and wasn't cheap but the dogs and kids have ruined it. It smells horrible and it is supposed to be cream/beige/and an off white colour but it is spotted with goodness knows what and a kind of browny grey colour in places. Yuck. I need a new comfy one
like you say but it needs to be practical!!??
