Bloody typical, my washing machines broken, couldn't have timed it better 🤦🏻‍♀️ any recommendations on the best washers? Haven't got a large budget unfortunately so can anyone suggest a good value for money one please?

Before you do anything - check the brushes (see YouTube). You don't say what's wrong, but if it's not spinning it could be that. If so, it's a cheap and relatively easy DIY fix.

popgoesperfection · 07/04/2020 03:25

Thanks for your reply, yeah totally forgot to put what's wrong with it 🤦🏻‍♀️ oops haha the bits inside the drum (plastic bits, don't know what they're called, there's 3 of them) have somehow snapped off so when I've done a load before i knew it was broke it has torn our clothes to shreds 😳

Used to have a Hotpoint that did this if overloaded. You can get new plastic bits that just clip in. Easy fix, new parts normally available online.

popgoesperfection,
OMG I know how you feel .
I would just go with Argos , or John Lewis have some great deals at the moment .
The main thing is quick delivery .
Hope you get it sorted soon.

popgoesperfection · 07/04/2020 04:13

Thanks @Justtrying I'll look into that !! I'm torn because I had said to dp months ago I was ready for a new washer but we decided to wait, now it's (almost) knackered so I don't know whether to bite the bullet and just order one 🤔 yes @avamiah it would be Argos that we order from, trying to look at ones with next day delivery. Only so many loads I can leave on my mums doorstep with 2 small dc at home haha

Try and get a candy washing machine

iwillnevereatspaghetti · 07/04/2020 08:13

You can get spares for those broken bits but it's really only a temporary fix. I live in fear of our washer breaking - good luck

popgoesperfection · 07/04/2020 09:34

Are candy ones good @BAMBI7111

Ours broke just after lockdown was announced and we were in isolation so I feel your pain.

We ordered new brushes from 2 suppliers but both orders were cancelled as despite them being "in stock" they couldn't actually source them quick enough 🤔

Argos and Currys couldn't guarantee delivery within 2 weeks as they state dates are an estimate at the moment due to staff shortages in warehouses so we ended up buying from AO and had it delivered on time within 4 days which was fine.

I got a 9kg Beko for £249 so was happy with that - our last 2 machines have been Beko, used most days and last 4-5 years which seems decent value to me.

popgoesperfection · 07/04/2020 10:23

I'll have a look into ao Thankyou @yatapina I need somewhere that delivery will be pretty quick

Do you have a Euronics near you? My Mum has just got one of these and it’s brilliant. Very quiet, large capacity, good options and comes with a 3 year warranty.

I wouldn’t touch Candy if I were you. They has massive problems with exploding drums not so long back.

MondeoFan · 07/04/2020 11:31

I bought Samsung Addwash in January and it's best machine I've ever had. It was £379 and even does a little tune once washing finished. Loads of settings and 8kg

MondeoFan · 07/04/2020 11:32

I'd steer clear from Candy or Hotpoint

popgoesperfection · 07/04/2020 16:14

Oh really @EcoCleaner when was that about candy washers?

OP posts:
EcoCleaner · 07/04/2020 17:10

I think the most recent one was 2018. If you google image search “candy exploding washing machine” or “Hoover exploding washing machine” (they’re the same company), you’ll find the articles about it.

The drum weld was so poor that on high spin and full of heavy wet washing, the metal seal came apart and caused massive damage.

popgoesperfection · 07/04/2020 17:45

Wow that's scary !! Thanks for the heads up!!

OP posts:
Fiddlersgreen · 07/04/2020 23:41

@MondeoFan why steer clear of hotpoint?

Our washer broke just before lockdown but during the period where we pretty much knew it was coming. We ended up ordering a new one from AO (A hotpoint!) as they had weekend delivery and we were both still working

EcoCleaner · 08/04/2020 09:37

@Fiddlersgreen Hotpoint have had 2 major product recalls in the last 5 years - one for dryers catching fire and another for faulty interlocks on washers sparking snd catching fire. The response from Hotpoint was poor on both counts.

That aside, looking at wash times, a cottons 40 wash on the current Hotpoint range takes 3 hours and 44 minutes!!

For info, Hotpoint, Indesit and Whirlpool are all the same company.

e1y1 · 08/04/2020 18:36

And dishwashers @EcoCleaner and too their response was poor.

Completely agree about Hoover candy being pants. I had a higher washer and the outerdrum and lid cracked 3 times by the spinning drum at 1600. Learnt later that was lucky that the whole machine didn't explode and shoot through any cabinets etc.

e1y1 · 08/04/2020 18:37

Hoover washer that was supposed to be

goingtotown · 12/04/2020 22:37

Avoid Hoover or Candy the repair man said they’re rubbish.
