Should I get a Tassimo?

I love a good caramel latte, and don’t really enjoy the Nescafé sachet ones and so I only end up buying them out which sometimes gets expensive!

Would it be worth buying a tassimo just for caramel lattes, and occasionally hot chocolates?

We had one, I found I didn’t like the taste of the milky drinks.

Eventually we got a nespresso and with an areolatte which is much better.

And the hot chocolate was like dishwater Sad

I have one and I love the coffee but it's so bad for the environment with the pods I feel guilty everytime I use it. The pods are also expensive.

:( I don’t know anyone who has one so I can’t give the drinks a try. My PiL have an nespresso but I’m not a huge coffee fan so don’t really appreciate all the types.

The milk pods are uht milk if that helps your decision. I like it but a lot of people don't.

No Grin

They are "beverage makers' not coffee machines and use powdered milk. The capsules work out more expensive and the taste will be closer to the sachets (also powdered milk) you have already tried.

A decent latte needs fresh milk. You can buy a frother on its own, and choose how to do the coffee part, but a lavazza or nespresso machine that comes with a frother might work out cheaper, especially if you can get an offer.

It's not powered milk it's uht milk.

lokoho · 05/04/2020 17:52

The milk is nasty. It's ok if you heat your own milk in the microwave.

TheVanguardSix · 05/04/2020 17:52

I have both. I prefer the Nespresso for coffee (the taste is much better) but the tassimo is great. The thing with the tassimo is that you can make coffee, hot chocolate, and tea (I think? I’ve only ever used the coffee and hot chocolate pods). So there’s more variety.
But as for lattes, with both machines, I just add milk warmed in the microwave. I haven’t bothered with a frother and the tassimo coffees requiring UHT milk pods. I really dislike the taste of UHT milk.

Okay thanks for all the help. I think I might have a look at alternatives. I guess I need a way to make espresso and a way to froth/heat milk and some caramel syrup. Has anyone tried an aero press for the espresso bit? My dad has an unused one that I could acquire.

No,,it will end up being relegated to the cupboard with all those other gadgets. Stick with a cafetiere..

We have a Tassimo and I really like it (I'm hard to please!).

I don't like milky drinks though. I'll drink a Americano or a cappuccino (that's as milky as I can go). I accidentally made myself a latte once and it was vile it reminded me of drinking baby milk 🤢.

Ginandbearit1 · 27/05/2020 19:21

I have one and love it. The Tassimo Costa Iced Caramel lattes taste just like the ones you can buy in Costa for £3-4.

mantlepiece · 27/05/2020 19:31

I have a D’Longhi machine, I think I paid about £150.
With this you have flexible options and also much better for the environment,no pods!

You use ground coffee which I keep in the fridge so it stays fresh.
It has a steam frother that is excellent. I have a metal container with a long handle and spout. Fill it half full with milk and you get get lovely hot frothy milk for your lattes and cappuccino!
Much better all round and very versatile, hot chocolate is great!
