full sized dishwasher v storage space

i have managed for nearly two years with a little table top dishwasher as the kitchen was designed without space for a dishwasher (by previous occupants!)

I have been informed that i could rip out one of my cupboards without too much disruption to fit a full sized dishwasher (i am lusting after a bosch!!)

What i want to know is- would most people be happy to sacrifice a cupboard for a dishwasher? we seem to fill every kitchen cupboard atm but i think a lot of it is rationable!

we are a family of 5 - nearly 6!!!

Weeeelllll, some of us find we keep most of our day-to-day crocks and cutlery in the dishwasher

good point- hadn't thought about that! what a novel storage solution!!

yes I would sacrifice anything for a proper sized dishwasher if I was a family of 6!!!!!

without a moments hesitation - get a bigger dishwasher.

If you are a family of 5 nearly 6, you need a full size dishwasher, no question, otherwise your worktop will be used as storage space for dirty crockery there isn't room for and which needs to wait for the next cycle/ be washed up.
If you need the cupboard space, have a clear out, you are bound to have all sorts of out of date food you'll never use, and/or various useless kitchen gadgets (breadmaker, popcorn maker, toasted sandwich maker, ice cream maker, etc etc)

i have this and it is fab as you can have one drawer with dirty in and one with clean you can also only run one drawer if you don't have a lot to do. It is expensive but I think you save by not running a full load all the time

i've got that too, andiem, i love it. thing is, it works out as storage space and a dishwasher combined because you can run one while you have clean dishes in the other.

I have a bosch full size dishwasher and we are a family of 4. We fill it every day (we used to have a slimline one) and it goes on every night. I am a SAHM so we use loads of plates etc in the day.

I would sacrafice a cupboard every time and my kitchen is seriously lacking in cupboard space.

Oh that counter-weighted door that lets you open it part way to pop a cup in the top rack, sigh. The previous crappy one used to have the option of closed or fully open. Not great when you are trying to keep a small one's hands out of the cutlery wrack at the bottom.

dishwasher, defo. You can sotre food elsewhere - we have a fridge freezer in our utilty room, with boxes on top for stock food, and a butchers block thingy with storage for veg and water on.

preggersagain · 12/09/2007 09:43

you lot were right- i now have a shiny new bosch dishwasher where once a cupboard stood !

My kitchen looks clean and sparkling already! DH used to do the excess washing up and leave it either on the drainer or scattered around the kitchen- now everything has a place- i even got all the other cupboards cleaned out and re-sorted!

List of useless kitchen gadgets consigned to the garage:
Popcorn maker
Ice cream maker,
steamer (only ever used for baby purees etc!)
Steam steriliser
george foreman (an old model which was replaced yonks ago!!)
4 burnt cake tins,
various bits of other gadgets- origin unknown!!!

GET THE DISHWASHER. Family of 6 here and I can honestly say to GET THE DISHWASHER. You'll find room in your presses dont worry.
