It was for a spice rack that didn't work out

Is it sticky - sorry, can't really tell from the pic.

If it's sticky tape then acetone based nail varnish remover will get it off.

I second the recommendation for oil,
it’s the only thing that can break down the glue one stubbornly stuck things.

It's very sticky

WD40 will remove the glue as will sticky label remover, just take your time and dont rush it use a plastic spatula etc fro scrubbing it
