Mismatched cutlery and crockery

I think mismatched crockery is nice but does it only work with vintage (old, flowery, etc) plates etc?
Also I have inherited cutlery that is totally mismatched, is this acceptable?
I have got a quaint cosy cottage and want to replace my cheap modern crockery/cutlery from my student flat.
Thank you in advance for your style advice!

I was about to say that mismatched vintage flowery crockery would be a mistake unless you live in a quaint cottage.

As it happens - you do!

Willow pattern crockery would also be most acceptable Grin

I live in a Victorian cottage and all my china's mismatched because I'm poor. Some of it's from charity shops and other bits are new but covered in vintage-style floral patterns. I always think it looks pretty when the table's set.

Excellent. I'll start going to jumble sales and charity shops for plates and bowls. Is cutlery allowed to different shapes and sizes too?

I think it can be nice to have different sizes and types of Crockery and cutlery to use. That said I use a denby set and have a canteen of cutlery, so I probably like the idea of it more than I like it in practice.

When can we come round for tea and cake?!

A variety of cutlery is fine, although when laying the table I'd at least try and make sure that each person has a matching set.

I go to quite a lot of car boot sales and you often find people selling stuff that has been used for a wedding reception and I'm sure I've seen boxes full of mismatched crockery and the like from time to time. They usually have shedloads of decorated jam jars as well Grin
