Getting smell out of sofa

My sister sprayed my sofa with some kind of air freshener spray and it absolutely stinks. It's like a sickly cloying perfume smell.

My sofa is charcoal coloured and I'm wondering if Bicarb won't make it go white.

Does anyone have any tips to get the smell out? Thanks

can you put it in the garden for a day or so?

I don't have access to a garden I'm afraid though that's a great idea.

Yes, because putting a sofa in a garden in March is a great idea 😂

Try the bicarb on the back or an unseen spot? I can't imagine it will harm it long term.

Febreze might help!

Thanks. I'll do a bicarb test and see if I can get it out.

I've sprinkled a load of bicarb under the seat cushions and am hoping if I leave that overnight, it might get some of the smell out.

I think the smell will probably fade quite quickly
Was it a fabreeze type thing?
Can you open all the windows and leave it for a few hours? The fresh air should help lessen the smell

I'm soo sensitive to smells so you have my sympathy
My sofa smells of sick, cheers kids it's leather and we've tried absolutely everything,
It kills me but until I can get a new sofa it's just one of those things I have to put up with

Hope yours gets sorted

I'm really sensitive to smell as well and I can smell it in the hallway. The sofa is radioactive with chemicals. I have a heavy cold and it's even getting through that. It smells like some kind of cheap aftershave mixed with toilet cleaner mixed with skunk pheromones.

Yes, I'm going to leave the windows open tonight and also a pot of bicarb open beside the sofa and see how it smells tomorrow. I'll also see about washing the sofa covers as well.

I hate frebreeze
it's basically cleverly marketed perfume.
has your sister put that on the sofa?

I have no idea what it is, maybe something called 'Oust', something out of a can. I have no idea why you would run around someone's house, spraying their property. It's actually smelling better today, though my nose is still blocked. Yesterday it was so bad, I felt nauseous.

I left the bicarb on the sofa overnight and it seems to be doing it's job.

Sofa covers contain a cocktail of chemicals. For a start, a mixture of flame retardants. Then, if you have it sprayed by the retailer with stain-repellent (an illegal activity by the way), powerful chemicals in that will react in unpredictable ways with the flame retardants. Add on to that chemicals in air freshener and maybe you got away lucky with a bad smell!

Thank you. Yes, you're right they are full of chemicals. The smell seems to be lessening now but I've had bicarb under the seats for several days.
