How to keep a shower plug clean

So we have a large shower that takes up most the bathroom, that itself I keep clean fine. Using bleach etc. But we have a plug ( this one B&Q Fastflow Shower Waste Chrome Cover & Flange STW002 ) and I really struggle to keep it clean underneath. My husband doesn’t like touching hair etc in the plug, so I do it (it’s not a nice job so I don’t blame him!) , I can get most the hair out and do it every time I’m in the shower so it doesn’t build up but it’s still really manky?! I’ve ordered a new one because I can’t seem to get on top of it , but I’d love for some tips etc so I don’t have to buy another one in another 8 months time!
Has anyone got any tips ?

I’ve got one of those but it doesn’t get manky and isn’t hard to clean,
I just squirt some bleach at it, clean the rest of the shower, pull it out and clean it in the sink. I gave a little screwdriver that I use to unscrew the chrome top from the plastic fod easier cleaning.

You use a Phillip's screwdriver to remove the top from the cylinder and then you can clean the hair and soap scum from it. I have a similar design shower plug

You need to unscrew this screw to dismantle for cleaning.
